๐ ATTENTION FARMERS! $8 BILLION IN NEW USDA RELIEF ANNOUNCED!
๐ฆ๐ POSSIBLY INCLUDING CRAWFISH AND CATTLE PRODUCERS!
On October 19, 2026, the Trump administration announced a new $8 billion Harvest Fuel Relief Program to provide financial assistance to American farmers facing rising diesel prices, increased production costs, and market disruptions.
The program will provide one-time payments administered through the USDA Farm Service Agency (FSA).
๐พ WHO QUALIFIES?
The program is designed to assist eligible agricultural producers for the 2026 crop year.
Payments will be calculated using a USDA formula that considers reported planted acreage, production costs, crop yields, and commodity prices.
Payment rates for major agricultural commodities, including crops covered under Title I farm programs, are expected to be announced in November. Additional eligibility and payment details will follow.
๐ฆ๐ WHAT ABOUT LOUISIANA CRAWFISH AND CATTLE FARMERS?
POSSIBLY! BUT ELIGIBILITY HAS NOT YET BEEN CONFIRMED FOR EITHER GROUP.
USDA has specifically invited producers of non-Title I commodities, including specialty crop growers and fishermen, to submit information documenting increased fuel costs.
Although crawfish and cattle operations have not been specifically identified as eligible, USDA has indicated that additional commodity payment details are forthcoming.
My recommendation: Crawfish producers should take advantage of USDAโs invitation to submit fuel-cost information. Cattle producers may also wish to contact USDA to ask whether their operations will be considered.

When contacting USDA, identify your type of farming operation and explain how increased diesel and other fuel costs have affected your business. Include supporting documentation when available.
๐ HOW DO FARMERS APPLY?
The official application period has NOT yet opened, but farmers can begin preparing now.
โ
Step 1: Create or update your secure Login.gov account at https://login.gov and link it to USDA.
โ
Step 2: Make sure your farm information and applicable acreage records are current with your local FSA office.
โ
Step 3: Watch for USDAโs announcement opening enrollment. Pre-filled applications will be available online for eligible producers with linked accounts.
โ
Step 4: Once enrollment opens, review your eligibility and submit the required application.
โ ๏ธ IMPORTANT TO UNDERSTAND:
The $8 billion program has been announced, but applications are not yet being accepted. Final eligibility requirements, payment amounts, and enrollment dates have not been released.
Crawfish and cattle farmers should NOT assume they qualify until USDA provides further guidance.
