π¨Are you guys prepared for the new ππππ-π rules?
Do you know the rules to offset any amount not reportable due to sending money to family and friends.
If not, keep reading!!!
Beginning in 2023 for tax season 2024, third-party payment networks must file Form 1099-K with the IRS and provide a copy to the taxpayer when the gross payment amount is more than $600.
However, not all payments from these third parties are taxable. Taxpayers & Tax Pros can take steps to prevent non-taxable items from being reported.
A taxpayer may receive a 1099-K in error due to payments that were gifts or reimbursements from family or friends.
If the taxpayer received a 1099-K in error, they should contact the issuer immediately. However, you may have a hard time getting someone on the phone!
If you can't obtain a corrected 1099-K form, you should seek guidance from a knowledgable tax professional.
Hit the share button to inform your family and friends because if itβs not reported correctly, they will receive a cp 2000 letter advising they owe the IRS!
If you need more info on the new reporting requirements, please reach out to Obsidian Tax Service Firm for 1099K reporting assistance!
