One of the hardest lessons I’ve learned as a business owner is this:

Not everyone will handle your kindness well.

Some people see kindness as generosity.
Others see it as an opportunity.

I’ve had people mistake patience for weakness.
They’ve mistaken grace for permission.
They’ve mistaken flexibility for a lack of boundaries.

I’ve seen it in business.
I’ve seen it in friendships.
I’ve seen it with employees.
I’ve seen it with clients.

When someone is willing to give you the benefit of the doubt, offer flexibility when life happens, invest in your growth, or extend trust before you’ve earned it, don’t take advantage of that.

Because eventually, even the kindest people will stop extending kindness when they are being used.

Being a good leader doesn’t mean allowing people to disrespect your time, your business, or your values.

It means setting expectations.
Holding people accountable.
Having difficult conversations.
And protecting the culture you’ve worked so hard to build.

I’ve learned that kindness and boundaries aren’t opposites. They work together.

I can care about people and still expect excellence.
I can show grace and still hold someone accountable.
I can help people without allowing them to continually take more than they’re willing to give.

The people who truly value you won’t resent your boundaries.

They’ll respect them.

And those are the people worth building a life and a business with.

What’s one boundary that changed your life or your business?

Independence isn’t a one-time declaration. It’s a daily decision.

250 years ago, a handful of people decided they were done asking permission. They wrote it down, signed their names, and accepted the risk. They were willing to fight for it.

Every woman I work with makes a smaller version of that same decision.

She decides she’s done asking permission to charge what she’s worth.

Done waiting for someone else to validate what she’s already built.

Done shrinking to make everyone else comfortable.

That’s not rebellion. That’s ownership.

This weekend, as we celebrate 250 years of a country built on that kind of courage, I’m thinking about every woman quietly declaring her own independence. In her pricing. In her boundaries. In her belief that what she’s building matters.

You don’t need a signed document to claim your freedom. You just need to decide, and then show up like you mean it. 🔥

Happy Independence Day. 🇺🇸

May was a blur.

A beautiful, full and at times chaotic blur.

There were meetings, events, conversations, follow-ups, introductions, and so many moments that reminded me why relationships matter in business.

In the middle of the busy, I found myself making space for connection. Working behind a desk all the time gets old. So I decided the rest of this year I was making space.

Space to show up, listen, learn, and be reminded why I do this job.

The conversations we say yes to. The relationships we nurture. The people who remind us that we are not doing this alone.

And somewhere in the middle of all the busy, there was a little breathing room too.

May reminded me that growth is not just about doing more. Sometimes it is about stopping to be with your people. To linger a little longer and enjoy the friendships, the food, the time to step away.

I’ve decided that every month I’m going to do something different than my norm. Say yes to opportunities that I normally would pass on. Say no to things that are draining me. Shake things up.

June’s focus is more joy to work and to life. I can’t wait!
