My office follows the Aledo ISD school closing schedule for bad weather, so my office is closed today, Wednesday, January 28th. This is not how I was hoping for the first week of tax season to go, but we will overcome!😊. I am hoping to skate into the office Thursday morning around 10:30-11:00 once it’s above freezing. Heads up! Looks like the starting date for filing returns for the 2026 tax season is projected to be delayed until Feb 16TH. That means that we have 2-3 weeks LESS prep time this coming tax season.

I would start getting your file ready, start thinking about what documents you will need to gather (pull out last year’s documents as a guide), and be on the lookout for that initial email from me which should arrive the first week of January. Also, any tax planning for life occurrences (selling a house, buying a house, college graduating kiddos, etc.) needs to be done now to help make you aware of any potential liability.

I know it’s summer, but you will want to take these steps to get your information to me as soon as possible next year to avoid delays on getting your return processed in time.

Gotta love tax seasons that involve a lot of tax law changes…..
