W-2 or 1099? Your tax situation can look very different.

**W-2 Employee:**
✅ Taxes are generally withheld from your paycheck
✅ Employer generally pays its share of Social Security & Medicare taxes
✅ Fewer opportunities to deduct unreimbursed work expenses

**1099 Contractor:**
⚠️ Usually no tax withholding
⚠️ Generally responsible for both portions of Social Security & Medicare taxes
✅ May deduct eligible business expenses
✅ May need to make estimated tax payments

💡 **The biggest mistake? Treating 1099 income like a regular paycheck.**

If you’re starting a side gig, freelancing, or moving from W-2 to 1099 work, plan for the tax difference **before tax season.**

Starting in 2026, eligible taxpayers who take the standard deduction may still be able to claim a federal deduction for qualifying cash charitable contributions. 🙌

✨ Up to $1,000 for single filers
✨ Up to $2,000 for married couples filing jointly

And if you itemize, there's another important change: a new 0.5% AGI floor applies to charitable deductions.

📌 Keep those donation receipts! Not every contribution qualifies, and proper documentation matters.

🔄 Got an old 401(k) from a previous job? This IRS update is worth knowing!

The IRS and Treasury recently released new sample forms and proposed procedures designed to make direct retirement rollovers more consistent and easier to process.

If you're changing jobs, consolidating retirement accounts, or considering a rollover:

✅ Less paperwork confusion
✅ More standardized rollover forms
✅ Guidance for moving funds between retirement plans and IRAs

⚠️ Heads up: The sample forms are optional for plan sponsors and don't apply to IRA-to-IRA transfers.

Business owners, are you using every deduction you qualify for?

The QBI deduction is still here for 2026—and it could be valuable for eligible small-business owners.

💰 Less taxable income can mean a lower federal tax bill.

You don’t have to itemize to get a charitable tax deduction anymore. 👀

For 2026, eligible taxpayers taking the standard deduction may be able to deduct up to $1,000 in qualifying cash donations—or $2,000 if married filing jointly.

💡 Giving back could now come with a tax benefit too.

New job? Bigger paycheck? 👀

Before you celebrate that raise, take a quick look at your W-4. 💰

A change in income can change your tax picture too.

👉 Better to check now than be surprised later.

IS YOUR PAYCHECK TAX ON TRACK?

There’s still time to adjust your W-4 withholding before the year ends.

If your income, job, or deductions have changed, a quick mid-year check could help you avoid a surprise tax bill in April — or having too much withheld all year.

📌 Don’t wait until tax season. Check your withholding now.

New rule for 2026: you can now write off donations WITHOUT itemizing.

✅ $1,000 (single) or $2,000 (married) — cash gifts, standard deduction and all
✅ Permanent. Above-the-line. No itemizing required.

But if you DO itemize:

⚠️ First 0.5% of your AGI in giving? Not deductible anymore.
⚠️ Top bracket donors now get 35% back instead of 37%.

Bottom line: how you give just got more important than how much. 💡

Follow for more tax breaks you're probably missing.
