As tax season is winding down, we would like to take time out to wish our secretary, Elizabeth, all the best.

Tax filing season officially opens January 24th, as IRS will begin accepting returns. The last day to file without an extension is April 18th.
S Corp and Partnership returns (and extensions)are due by March 15th.

To help reduce delays this tax season, the IRS are issuing letters 6419 and 6475.

Important:

IRS letter 6419 is starting to arrive. This letter is for parents that received the Advanced Child Tax Credit. Do NOT throw this letter away. It contains necessary information for filing your tax return. Married couples may receive two letters, and we will need both to prepare an accurate return.

IRS letter 6475 only applies to the third round of Economic Impact Payments (stimulus) that was issued starting in March 2021. People who are missing stimulus payments should review this information to determine their eligibility and whether they need to claim a Recovery Rebate Credit for 2021.

The federal tax filing deadline has been extended to May 17th and Iowa's deadline was extended to June 1st.

We will be closing at noon on Friday April 16th and be closed Monday April 19th so that our staff can enjoy a few days off. We will open again on Tuesday April 20th at noon.

We will continue processing returns and be available again next week. We appreciate your business and wish you many great returns. Thank you!

The IRS has issued guidance on the $10200 unemployment exclusion that was included in the American Rescue Plan on March 11th.

There is no need to file a federal amended return, as the IRS will refigure your taxes and adjust your account.

We are awaiting guidance from the Iowa Dept of Revenue regarding the state.

So to answer a few questions...

Yes, we are open.

Yes, we are still taking appointments. However, we are encouraging people to drop off their tax information, and we will call with questions or when your return is completed. We can even pick up your paperwork if necessary. Another alternative is to email us your information.

Yes, we are taking extra precautions and cleaning/sanitizing areas in between appts.

Now the federal filing and payment deadline has been extended until July 15th.
Iowa state tax return deadlines and payment deadlines have been extended until July 31st.
