In a story regarding The Wall That Heals at the James E. Van Zandt VA Medical Center, Allan Hancock and his his wife, Judy, are seen walking past the wall.

For better or worse, Altoona has become known in the culinary world for its unique Altoona style pizza. The Altoona Hotel Pizza, named after the Altoona Hotel where this local favorite got its start. The recipe is anything but ordinary: a thick, square-cut Sicilian-style crust topped with tomato sauce, salami, green bell pepper, and the ingredient that still sparks debate today—yellow American cheese.

The Altoona Hotel burned down in 2013, but their pizza didn't disappear. Local pizzerias, such as 29th Street Pizza Subs & More, have continued serving their own versions of what many call Altoona-Style, Altoona Sicilian, or Altoona Hotel Pizza.

Love it or hate it, there's no denying that Altoona has created a pizza style that is uniquely its own—and one that has gotten attention far beyond Blair County.

With most local schools returning on August 26, it's time for all of us to be extra alert. School buses will once again be picking up and dropping off students across our communities.

🚍 Remember Pennsylvania's School Bus Stopping Law:

- Stop at least 10 feet from a school bus when its red lights are flashing and the stop arm is extended.
- This applies whether you are behind the bus, approaching it from the opposite direction, or approaching an intersection where the bus is stopped—unless a physical barrier separates the roadways.
- All directions must stop when the bus is dropping off or picking up students at an intersection.
- Don't move until the red lights stop flashing, the stop arm is retracted, and the children have reached a safe place.
