He’s retired. You’re still working. And suddenly Tuesday morning looks very different for the two of you. 😄

One person is thinking about meetings and deadlines while the other is wondering whether today is a good day for golf, lunch out, or finally tackling that travel wish list.

When spouses retire at different times, it can create more than a scheduling mismatch. There may be questions about spending, benefits, household responsibilities, travel, and how you both picture this next stage of life.

The good news? You don’t have to retire on the same day to build a retirement that works for both of you.

Here's how couples can navigate the in-between years when one spouse has retired and the other is still very much on the clock: https://buff.ly/LVJeRjE

Sometimes, the smartest financial move you can make is to do absolutely nothing. At least for a few minutes. 🛑

Scammers are getting better at making their stories sound convincing, creating a sense of urgency, and pressuring people to act before they have time to think.

But as one $20,000 scam attempt shows, a simple pause can make all the difference.

At C. Beach Brown, we believe protecting your wealth is just as important as growing it. And sometimes, that protection starts with slowing down and asking a few questions.

Scammers are getting smarter. Unfortunately, that means the rest of us have to get a little smarter, too. 🕵️‍♀️

Older adults can be especially attractive targets for financial fraud, and today’s scams can look surprisingly legitimate — from urgent phone calls and convincing emails to messages that appear to come from someone you know.

Knowing the warning signs ahead of time can make it much easier to stop, question, and verify before money or personal information changes hands.

The Consumer Financial Protection Bureau offers helpful resources for recognizing common scams, protecting yourself and your family, and knowing what to do when something doesn’t feel quite right.

A few minutes spent learning the red flags now could prevent a very expensive headache later.

Thinking about helping your adult children buy a home, contributing to a grandchild’s education, or simply sharing some of the wealth you’ve worked hard to build? 💰

In 2026, you can give up to $19,000 per person without using any of your lifetime gift tax exemption. But just because you can give that much doesn't always mean you should.

The smartest gifting decisions aren't just about taxes. They're about making sure your generosity fits into your bigger financial picture.

Before you write that check, here are a few things worth considering. 👇️

📉 Down markets are stressful enough. Having to sell investments at the wrong time to pay your bills can make them even more stressful.

That’s where a bucket strategy can help.

By keeping money for near-term expenses separate from investments meant for later years, you may have more flexibility to ride out market downturns instead of reacting to them.

Because sometimes the best retirement strategy isn’t about predicting what the market will do next. It’s about building a plan that helps you stay calm when the market does what markets do. 😉

When should you think about long-term care insurance?

Preferably sometime before you actually need long-term care. 😉 But beyond that, the answer isn’t quite so simple.

Your age, health, assets, family situation, retirement income, and even where you hope to receive care can all play a role in deciding whether coverage makes sense — and when to consider buying it.

And long-term care insurance isn’t the only option. The bigger goal is having a plan for what happens if you eventually need help with everyday care, including how you’ll pay for it and how much you want to rely on family.

FAFSA season has a way of making even organized parents wonder, “Wait…are we doing this right?” 🎓💰

And with changes to the FAFSA process, some of the rules and terminology families remember from the last time around may not apply anymore.

Whether you’re filling it out for the first time or you’ve already sent a child (or two!) to college, it’s worth knowing what’s changed before you dive in.

This helpful overview breaks down some of the key FAFSA updates and what families should know as they plan for college costs.

What if retirement had a dimmer switch instead of an on/off button? 💡

For some people, going from a full-time career to a completely open calendar overnight sounds wonderful. For others, a phased retirement may be a much better fit.

Working fewer hours, shifting responsibilities, consulting, or gradually stepping away can give you more time and freedom while allowing you to keep earning income and ease into your next chapter.

Of course, there are financial questions to consider, too — from healthcare and Social Security to retirement savings, taxes, and cash flow.

If you’re getting closer to retirement but aren’t quite ready to close the laptop for good, a phased approach might be worth exploring.

The conversation around retirement planning is changing. We used to plan for the day when work would become optional. I now have had several conversations with clients where we have planned for the day when they are going to cut back on work and accept a smaller paycheck.

🎓 College tuition is coming due. Your parents may need more help. And somewhere in the middle of all of it is your own retirement.

Welcome to the financial juggling act many families find themselves facing.

When multiple generations need support at the same time, it can be hard to know which financial priority should come first — especially when every choice feels personal.

The answer isn’t necessarily to divide your money equally or try to do everything at once. It’s to understand what you can realistically afford, which expenses have other funding options, and where helping someone else could put your own financial security at risk.

We're looking at how to balance college costs, elder care, and your own long-term goals without letting guilt make the decisions for you.

Gen X grew up with latchkeys, landlines, and a healthy dose of “figure it out yourself.” 🔑📼

So it’s probably no surprise that many Gen X parents developed a pretty independent approach to money, too.

But their kids are coming of age in a very different financial world — with higher housing costs, student debt, changing career paths, and different ideas about what financial success should look like.

That can make conversations about spending, saving, homeownership, careers, and financial independence…interesting. 😅

Understanding where those differences come from can help families have better conversations about money — without assuming one generation is doing it “right” and the other is doing it “wrong.”
