"We have extra cash." Are you sure?

Before you spend it, subtract:
→ The next 4–8 weeks of payroll and bills
→ Taxes you owe but haven't paid yet
→ Customer deposits for work not yet delivered
→ A cushion for a slow month

What's left is extra. Usually, it's less than it looked.

Was your real number smaller than you thought? 👇

Your books are done. You still can't answer basic money questions?

Try these in 5 minutes:
→ Which product makes you the most money after ALL costs (scrap, setup, freight, overhead)?
→ How much cash will you have in 90 days?
→ Can you afford your next hire, and when?

Bookkeeping tells you what happened. These questions are about what happens next. Your bookkeeper didn't fail. It's a different job.

How many did you get? 👇

No finance team? Every big decision is a guess.

What a fractional CFO does in month one:
→ Week 1: Clean up the books so you can trust them
→ Week 2: Build a 13-week cash forecast
→ Week 3: Set up a one-page dashboard
→ Week 4: Pressure-test your next big decision

You don't need a full-time CFO. You need your numbers to answer your questions.

What decision are you putting off because the numbers aren't clear? 👇

You check the bank balance. It still can't tell you if you're okay.

5 numbers to check before you open your inbox:
→ Cash, and how many weeks it covers
→ What customers owe you, and what's overdue
→ Bills due in the next 30 days
→ Last month's gross margin: up or down?
→ Runway if sales stop growing

How many could you answer right now without opening a report? 👇

A busy route can still lose money. 🚛

Ask 3 questions about every lane:
→ What's my all-in cost per mile?
→ How many empty miles do I drive back?
→ How long until this customer pays me?

Can't answer them lane by lane? You're pricing on gut feel.

Which lane would you bet is your most profitable? Have you checked? 👇

If someone offered to buy your company tomorrow, the price wouldn’t come from what you believe it’s worth. It would come from what your books can prove.

Buyers usually look at three things first:

✔️ Steady profit: consistent earnings over time, with one-off and personal costs separated out so the real performance is clear.
✔️ Recurring revenue: income that repeats, like contracts, subscriptions or loyal customers, is valued more than one-time sales.
✔️ Clean records: reconciled accounts, signed agreements and a clear paper trail make your numbers easier to trust.

💡 Tip: these take time to build. Starting a year or two before you’d ever consider selling gives you a real track record to show.

Your accountant reviews your books to file taxes. A buyer reviews them to decide what your business is worth. That’s a very different level of detail.

This review is called due diligence, and it usually starts with five areas:

Revenue: is it recorded the same way every month, and can each sale be traced to an invoice or contract?
Customer concentration: if a few clients make up most of your revenue, buyers see more risk.
Owner expenses: personal costs run through the business have to be found and explained.
Receivables: old unpaid invoices raise questions about how much will really be collected.
Monthly close: books reconciled every month are far easier to trust than books cleaned up once a year.

💡 Tip: even if selling is years away, keeping these five in order now saves time, stress and money later.

If a buyer looked at your books today, what would you fix first? 👇

Your bank balance tells you what’s in the account today. It doesn’t tell you whether the business is healthy.

Here are five numbers that give you the fuller picture, and what each one tells you:

Cash: what you can actually spend right now, after money that’s already committed.
Gross margin: what’s left from each sale after direct costs. Growing revenue with a shrinking margin can mean you’re working harder for less.
Receivables: money customers owe you. It counts as revenue, but it isn’t cash until it’s collected.
Overhead: the fixed costs of keeping the doors open, whether sales are up or down.
Runway: how many months your cash could cover expenses if nothing new came in.

💡 Tip: review all five together once a month. Any one of them alone can look fine while another is quietly becoming a problem.

Your kids want your weekend. Not your bank app.

Your numbers don't take the weekend off. Payroll's due Monday. That invoice is still overdue. The balance is lower than you'd like.

So you check the app at 11 PM on a Saturday, while the people you're working for are right in front of you.

Here's the fix: handle your numbers during the week. Update the cash forecast. Schedule the bills. Make sure payroll is covered. Keep the books current.

Do that, and the weekend finally feels like a weekend.

Better numbers. Better weekends.
