Ok, vulnerability time...
I know I don't post often. Social media drives me nuts, and I prefer not to engage with it often, but I've gotten some prods to get out of my own way and put this out there for the world to see.
As many of you know, I coach accounting professionals on a myriad of topics, mostly focusing on the big, inner roadblocks to success: breaking down limiting beliefs around money and relationships, how our perceptions of value and self-worth impact our pricing and who we choose to work with, and Impostor Syndrome, just to name a few. As my clients know, I take a very human approach to coaching, recognizing that our worst critic is the one inside our own heads, and normalize these conversations and the challenging emotions that come with them by showing them that they are not alone. I am learning all of this from personal experience.
Well, my impostor syndrome went a bit nuts last week when my name unexpectedly showed up in a headline that went out in an email to the 400K+ subscribers of CPA Trendlines. I had no idea that this was what was going to happen when Donny Shimamoto interviewed me and Mathew Patrick Heggem about the Accounting Alchemy Network. It is positive attention, praising the work we are doing in the world. Nonetheless, it is a lot more attention than this little introvert is used to receiving all at once. It's taken a week of wrapping my head around it before I was ready to re-post, and I knew that, when I did finally re-post, that my greatest service to my community would be sending this peek "behind the curtain" with it. There are so many people out there making achievement look easy, and that creates more impostor syndrome. My job in this world is to empower and encourage every person I meet to be their best selves, whatever THEY want that to look like. Putting others on a pedestal just gets in the way, and I'm afraid of heights. Together we create a rising tide that raises ALL ships, and for me that is a constant dance of getting out of my own way.
So here goes:
We have created an amazing movement working to turn the accounting profession into a vehicle for positive change in the world, and we're having a ton of fun doing it. Wanna come play with us?
