An estimated $1.2 billion in refunds may be lost. That is the amount taxpayers could forfeit by failing to file their 2022 returns, according to an IRS news release.
If you don’t have a tax plan, you’re leaving a tip.
I recently worked with a client who had not filed their 2022 tax return. After reviewing their situation, we identified a $15,530 refund.
They were just weeks away from losing that refund permanently due to the three-year statute of limitations.
This is more common than most people realize.
Many taxpayers:
Assume they don’t need to file
Delay due to missing information
Are unaware that a refund is even due
If a return is not filed within the allowable timeframe, the refund is forfeited.
Give unto Caesar what is Caesar’s—but don’t leave a tip.
They didn’t have a tax plan, so they didn’t know. Now they do.
