Why am I and ten others participating in Dancing Stars Atlanta with a goal to raise $2 million for Alzheimer's Research in Georgia?

Federal funding cuts implemented in early 2025 by the Trump administration have severely disrupted Alzheimer’s research in Georgia, with the NIH halting grants and freezing funds for studies at Emory University and UGA. These cuts, targeting research with DEI components, have caused project shutdowns, halted clinical trials, and created critical funding shortages for Alzheimer’s studies and trainee support in Georgia.

Impact on Georgia Alzheimer's Research

Emory University: Research led by Professor Whitney Wharton was disrupted after the NIH terminated grants, forcing the closure of patient databases and cancellation of appointments for at-risk individuals in Alzheimer's studies.

University of Georgia (UGA): Professors lost NIH support for trainees specializing in Alzheimer’s and other health sciences, forcing them to find emergency funding to complete the academic year.

Regional Impact: The cuts are part of a broader, national, and state-level trend where hundreds of millions in research funds were halted, affecting projects focusing on aging, dementia, and Alzheimer's.

Scope of Disruptions: Across the U.S., roughly 14 out of 35 Alzheimer's research centers saw funding in limbo, putting long-term studies on brain donations and clinical care at risk.

In other words, there is really no other significant funding except what Alzheimer's Association can raise. They are the 3rd largest funder for research behind the US govt (now halted) and the Chinese Govt. Everyone is impacted by brain health issues. I ask those with a DAF to "Half your DAF" this year and reinstate valuable research at UGA, Emory, and Medical College of GA.

Don't plan on calling the IRS with questions, they are down 9,000 workers in the tax service group due to DOGE cuts.
