The Massachusetts 62F refunds issued to everyone at the end of 2022 just might be taxable income to you, according to the IRS. The IRS is urging taxpayers in 19 states to hold off on filing their 2022 income tax returns until they decide how to treat the refunds. If you are a Massachusetts taxpayer, the refund won't be taxed at the state level, but the jury is still out on whether you'll be paying the IRS for that windfall.

They're dubbed inflation relief payments, but they reflect a hodgepodge of rules and eligibility requirements. The IRS wants time to figure out which rules apply to them.

Keep an eye out for this letter if you've been receiving advance child tax credit payments. Reporting incorrect amounts on your 2021 returns could delay processing and refunds for many families.

Many parents could toss a key tax-related letter from the IRS relating to child tax credit payments in 2021. Here's what IRS Letter 6419 looks like.

Electronic filing opens today, and the IRS is already forecasting a “frustrating” tax season. Get your information in early! And, please be nice to your favorite accountant.

In what even the U.S. Treasury says will be a frustrating tax season, families claiming the child tax credit and newly self-employed Americans are among filers likely to see the biggest challenges this year.

Having trouble getting through to the IRS? Have you received a notice that you can’t get resolved? You’re not the only one.

The IRS says taxpayers in the same situation can simply call and request a payment trace, except one Massachusetts woman discovered that is not so simple.

Tax season is in full swing, but when can you actually file your return?

If you're a business, filing season is open. Most returns can be filed as soon as all forms are finalized. For many partnerships and corporations, that could happen as soon as next week.

Individuals are looking at a significantly longer wait. Filing season opens February 12th. For those waiting on refunds, especially anyone getting the Earned Income Credit or Additional Child Tax Credit, refunds will begin to be issued the first week of March.

Don't wait until the last minute. Get your return prepared now, so you are ready to file as soon as filing season opens. You can learn the good (or bad) news now, and file when you are ready.

We're in search of someone to make us a website. We've thrived for 35+ years on word-of-mouth and referrals, but it's time to give some of our newer (and more technologically adept) clients a place to find us online. Taxes we do. But, web design is way out of our wheelhouse. Send your recommendations and/or referrals our way please.
