Pat McGrath - Northwestern Mutual

Pat McGrath - Northwestern Mutual When your financial plan is designed to fuel your life plan - dreams start to take reality. I didn’t originally plan to become a financial advisor.

With strategies that prioritize certainty over possibility, my clients feel clarity and confidence after working with me on their financial planning. Growing up, I expected to pursue engineering. But after a sports injury during my freshman year of college, I transitioned from playing to coaching. That experience showed me how much of a difference one person can make in someone else’s life. The fu

lfillment I found in coaching led me to pursue a career centered on helping others. After exploring different paths, I realized financial planning offered the opportunity to make a meaningful, lasting impact, especially through the important, often difficult conversations that truly shape outcomes. My passion for financial planning is also personal. During the 2008 financial crisis, my family was working with an investment management firm. The focus was on returns, risk tolerance, and fees—but not on a comprehensive financial plan. When the markets declined and income was impacted, the gaps became clear: no emergency fund, depleted investments, drained retirement accounts, and eventually, growing debt. That experience reinforced a lesson I carry into my work today—financial planning is not something to “figure out later.” A well-structured plan is meant to prepare for exactly those scenarios. Today, as a financial advisor in Barrington, IL with Northwestern Mutual, I help families avoid the exact planning gaps that caused my family's 2008 outcome. I hold my Life and Health licenses, along with the SIE, Series 6, Series 63, and Series 7. My goal in every conversation is to help clients gain clarity, confidence, and a stronger sense of direction in their financial future.
