We are a small family owned business in Batavia helping other small businesses with their Bookkeeping, Payroll and Administrative needs. We are passionate about them and their success!

15 years ago... My Mom started a bookkeeping business in her basement with nothing except a whole lot of heart and experience in accounting. Throughout high school, college and on I worked with her part time and found a true love for bookkeeping and the clients she had. Then one morning in 2009 my life changed forever, unexpectedly she was no longer with us. I knew that she was in a better place but my best friend was gone and I didn't know what to do. A few days later, two of her clients came to me asked, "Jess, will you continue our bookkeeping? We hope you continue your Mom's business in her footsteps." I was honored that they had the confidence in me to continue managing their accounts. From that day on the second generation of Dollar and Sense Bookkeeping began. Over the last 6 years I have grown into a full time business which now includes several diverse small business clients. We have a professional, trusted, name and we have a lot to offer small business owners! Everyday I give it my all to provide the best level of service possible for my clients and I know I make my Mom proud. On a personal level, my husband and my two children are at the center of my universe. There love and support is amazing. When we are not hard at work, we enjoy bike riding on the Fox River Trail, gardening and finding new places to eat around our great town, Batavia! Today, we’re introducing you to Kim Salvati! 💚

If there’s one word we could use to describe what Kim brings to our clients, it would be experience.

Kim has a background in public accounting as an auditor PLUS more than 30 years of corporate and small business accounting experience. Since joining Dollar & Sense in 2022, she has worked with clients in just about every kind of business you can imagine, from retail, construction, and landscaping to bakeries, e-commerce, insurance, automotive, medical, nonprofits, and more.

But what we really love is Kim’s philosophy when it comes to her clients:

She wants to be an extension of their company.

Because good bookkeeping isn’t just about keeping the numbers organized. When business owners have accurate, up-to-date financial information, they can make better decisions about where their business is going next.

And Kim LOVES getting to share in those success stories!

When she isn’t working with clients, you’ll find Kim spending time with her husband, two sons and their wives, her grandsons, and Teddy the pup. She also loves gardening and traveling.

Last week, Jess joined a fantastic group of women business owners at Start Something Studio in Downtown Batavia for a Lunch & Learn focused on getting our finances ready for year-end!

Let's face it, running a small business is BUSY. And sometimes bookkeeping takes a back seat.

Receipts pile up, paperwork gets tossed in a box, and suddenly December arrives and the scramble begins!

But it doesn't have to be that way!

💚 Meet April Williams!

April joined Dollar & Sense in January 2017 after meeting Jessica through a mutual friend, and thankfully for us, she says she still enjoys coming to work every day!

With more than 20 years of bookkeeping experience, April knows her stuff. Her specialties include contractors and trades, payroll and sales tax, and she makes it a priority to keep learning as rules and regulations change so her clients always receive the best service possible.

That combination of experience, knowledge, and genuine care for her clients is exactly what makes April such an important part of our team.

Outside the office, April is a proud baseball and football mom who loves cheering on her son. She also enjoys reading, movies, and spending time with friends and family.

We’re so lucky to have April’s experience and her personality on the Dollar & Sense team. 💚

How well do you REALLY know your numbers right now?

We’re officially in the final quarter of the year, which means now is the time to take a good look at your books, not December 30th.

Before the year gets away from you, ask yourself:

✔️ Are your books reconciled and up to date?
✔️ Do you know how much profit your business has actually made this year?
✔️ Are there outstanding invoices you need to collect?
✔️ Are your expenses categorized correctly?
✔️ Do you have everything organized for year-end and tax season?

We talk a lot about what we do at Dollar & Sense Bookkeeping, but over the next few weeks, we want to introduce you to the people behind the numbers. 💚

And of course, we have to start with the woman who started it all.

Meet Jessica Weber McGrail, President & Owner of Dollar & Sense Bookkeeping!

For Jessica, bookkeeping has never just been about numbers. It’s about people, relationships, and helping small business owners succeed.

Dollar & Sense began from a very personal place. Jessica grew up working alongside her mom, who ran her own bookkeeping business, and discovered along the way that she shared her mom’s love for bookkeeping and small businesses. After unexpectedly losing her mom in 2009, Jessica was asked by two of her mom’s clients to continue their bookkeeping, and Dollar & Sense was born.

Today, that same relationship-first philosophy is still at the heart of the business.

Jessica believes clients should feel more like family than account numbers. She loves helping business owners understand their finances, stay organized, and have the information they need to make smart decisions for their businesses.

And if you know Jessica, you also know that community is a HUGE part of who she is. You’ll find her volunteering, serving on boards, supporting local organizations and businesses, and finding plenty of ways to get involved around Batavia.

Outside the office, Jessica’s favorite people are her husband and two kids. She loves gardening, biking the Fox River Trail, grabbing ice cream, and enjoying everything our hometown has to offer.

Basically…small businesses, numbers, family, and Batavia. That’s Jessica. 💚

We’re pretty lucky she started this whole thing.

October 1 is here, which means we officially have three months left in 2026.

A strong team isn’t built only during work hours. 💚

Last week,some of the Dollar & Sense team (plus a few friends!) traded spreadsheets for spatulas and spent some time together at a cooking class at Fox Den Cooking School in St. Charles.

Because we’re more than coworkers. We’re friends who genuinely enjoy spending time together, laughing together, learning together and getting to know each other beyond the office.

And we think that matters.

The better we know each other, the better we work together, and the better we can work together for our clients. That connection, trust and teamwork are a big part of what makes Dollar & Sense feel a little different.
