Team Spotlight: Celebrating Summer!

August is a month worth celebrating for our amazing teammate, Summer!

This month, we're celebrating Summer's one-year anniversary since rejoining the Back to Basics family... and her birthday too!

Fun fact: Summer was part of our team nearly 10 years ago as a contractor, and we were thrilled when she came back last year. Some people just feel like they belong, and Summer is one of them.

She brings a positive attitude, a willingness to jump in wherever she's needed, and genuine care for both our team and our clients. We are so grateful she's back with us and can't imagine our team without her.

Please help us wish Summer a very happy birthday and congratulate her on her one-year anniversary! We're so lucky to have you on the Back to Basics team. Here's to another wonderful year ahead!

I’m Iryna, and I’ve been with Back to Basics Bookkeeping since 2020 and became Kim’s business partner in 2023.

I live in Arizona with my husband & daughter. I absolutely LOVE the desert. One of my favorite ways to spend a weekend is getting off the pavement and exploring Arizona’s desert trails with my family to see where they take us.

I’m definitely an outdoorsy person, but my love for the outdoors doesn’t stop at the desert. Give me mountains, a beach, or a beautiful trail and I’m happy. We love escaping to Mexico for some beach time. And in the winter, my husband and I love trading the desert for the snow and going skiing.

Funny enough, for someone with such a desert spirit, I also absolutely love rainy weather, snow, and all things cozy. My idea of a perfect winter getaway is a little wooden cabin tucked away in snowy mountains, with a fireplace going, snow falling outside, and my family gathered together enjoying a quiet evening. Give me a rainy afternoon, a good book, a warm cup of tea, and nowhere I need to be, and I’m perfectly content.

At home, I have a completely different side. I love knitting, I’m pretty crafty, and I really enjoy cooking a good, hearty meal for my family. I’m also the kind of person who genuinely enjoys a detailed project — whether it involves a spreadsheet, yarn, a recipe, or figuring out how to make something just right.

Which probably explains why bookkeeping fits me so well! I genuinely love what I do. I enjoy digging into something, figuring out why it doesn’t make sense, and getting everything exactly where it belongs. More importantly, I care about the people I work with and I take the trust our clients place in us very seriously.

We also have two kitties who, naturally, believe the house belongs to them and we’re simply allowed to live there.

Most of all, I’m a family person. Those ordinary moments together - family dinners, adventures, cozy evenings, and everything in between — are some of the ones I treasure most.

So somewhere in between family time, off-roading, skiing, knitting, cooking, cozy evenings, kitty cuddles, and watching AZ sunsets...there's bookkeeping.

I have never introduced myself. So, thought now is the perfect time, 20 years later. Better late, than never.

I may be a bookkeeper, but I am so much more than that. I am a person who LOVES people, I know what others need before they do, I care deeply, and I never stop dreaming.

My mom was my biggest mentor. Teaching me to show up consistently, work hard, never give up and love others like family.

I spend my time with the people I love, seeing new things, relaxing with a good book, going on a walks listening to my favorite podcast, and looking for rainbows, sunrises and sunsets.

I am a gift giver - where I blow my budget!
I believe small things make a big difference.

Everyone has their own struggles in life, so be kind, ALWAYS.

I am a hugger & a listener to EVERYONE! I tell people I love them often.

I am grateful for every day, even when it's a hard one.

My biggest pet peeve are people who are not real or honest. I value this so much.

My clients mean the world to me. I consider them my second family.

I don't just do bookkeeping, I am a partner for my clients and a huge networker in the community. If I don't have an answer, I will find one.

Business partners for 3 years!!!

We just celebrated running together for
3 years.

I never planned to have a business partner.

Iryna was referred to me from a fellow bookkeeper sharing they loved her, but couldn't give her enough hours. She called me in March right as Covid was in full force.
We had such a great conversation, but I told her I just couldn't due to the unknown.

A month later, the government issued all the loans to my clients and I was drowning trying to learn everything & keep my clients afloat. I called Iryna and said, "Are you ready? I don't know what this is gonna look like, but let's do this!" She said, "YES!."

After surviving Covid, we realized we were a powerhouse duo. I knew I had found my person who would care about my clients as much as I do & I could delegate things to her even though I was very slow at this! OCD you know me. I offered her to become my business partner and we haven't looked back.

Honestly, I can't imagine running B2B by myself anymore. We are having too much fun together.

Iryna is one of the best business decisions I've ever made.

Every year, I like to share a little bit of wisdom about being a business owner.

Here is my wisdom to share with all of you!

😊Love what you do and be passionate about it! This will attract the kind of team, clients, and support you want.

😊Reminder - Be good at what you do, and hire others for what you are not good at. It is worth the cost (say on repeat).

😊Failures - Everyone has failures. My failures taught me the most.

😊Boundaries - You MUST have them & stick to them.

😊Technology - Keep up with it or you will be left behind. Everything new has good and bad. Take the good and go for it!

😊Trust & Respect - If you gain this with your clients you figured out the secret sauce.

😊Have a plan if you die - I know this sounds harsh, but it is so important.

😊Surround yourself with others in the SAME industry as you are in - Being a business owner is so rewarding, but also very hard at times. You need others who can relate & understand what you are going through. Others to collaborate with, educate one another on the latest and greatest, and refer to. This will save you time, your sanity, and help you grow by seeing things in a different light.

Iryna is my business partner and we lead a team of 3 who work alongside us to help our clients live their dreams.
