Week 2 of the Digital Kaizen Fellowship is underway.
This week, I had the chance to meet with Roy Zhao, our inaugural Digital Kaizen Fellow, and give him two tools for the journey ahead:
A copy of Digital Kaizen
and his own Omi voice device.
One of the core ideas behind this fellowship is that students should not just learn about AI from a distance. They should explore it, question it, use it, reflect on it, and begin developing their own point of view.
Roy has already completed his first weekly Voice Reflection Log — an audio journal guided by an AI interviewer that adapts to his answers in real time.
That reflection process is becoming one of the most interesting parts of the fellowship. It gives us a way to capture not just what Roy is researching, but how his thinking is changing.
His early research is focused on AI in financial services, with a particular emphasis on smaller advisory practices, individual financial advisors, and the friction points where AI may help improve workflows without replacing human judgment.
That distinction matters.
The question is not simply:
“Can AI do this?”
The better question is:
“Where does AI reduce noise, and where does the human advisor still matter most?”
That is the heart of Digital Kaizen:
Noise → Signal → Insight → Improvement
