WASHINGTON — Today, the Internal Revenue Service, the U.S. Department of the Treasury, and the Bureau of the Fiscal Service announced they are disbursing nearly 2 million payments in the sixth batch of Economic Impact Payments from the American Rescue Plan.
Today’s announcement brings the total disbursed so far to approximately 161 million payments, with a total value of more than $379 billion, since these payments began rolling out to Americans in batches as announced on March 12.
The sixth batch of payments began processing on Friday, April 16, with an official payment date of April 21, with some people receiving direct payments in their accounts earlier as provisional or pending deposits.

Nebraska to Follow IRS Extending Individual
Income Tax Filing Date

MARCH 19, 2021 (LINCOLN, NEB.) — The IRS announced that it will extend the tax filing date and postpone the
payment deadline for federal individual income taxes from April 15, 2021 to May 17, 2021 for the 2020 tax year.
Nebraska Tax Commissioner Tony Fulton announces that the Nebraska Department of Revenue (DOR) will do the
same. As indicated in the IRS notice the extension and postponement does not include estimated payments.

Recovery Rebate Credit
The IRS announced last week that, as required by law, all legally permitted first and second round of Economic Impact Payments have been issued. Get My Payment was updated on January 29 to reflect the final payments and will not be updated again. If individuals didn’t receive all or part of their payment, they may be eligible to claim the Recovery Rebate Credit with their 2020 tax return.

Important Notes:

Claiming the wrong amount of the Recovery Rebate Credit will cause the return to require additional IRS review which will delay refund processing. Taxpayers can confirm their stimulus payments either by referencing IRS-mailed Payment Confirmation Notices 1444 and 1444-B, checking their bank account activity, creating/viewing their online account, verifying issued payments through the Get My Payment tool, or requesting an account transcript.

Eligibility for the RRC is based on 2020 tax year information, while the Economic Impact Payments were based on 2019 (or 2018) information.

The IRS just issued their announcement that they will start taking Individual tax returns - Feb 12, 2021.

HOWEVER, if you traditionally receive Earned Income Credit OR Additional Child Tax credit, those returns will not start processing until February 22, 2021.
