Somewhere along the way, many of us learned to measure our worth by our productivity.

Our job title, accomplishments and income.

So it's no surprise that retirement can feel unsettling. If so much of your identity has been wrapped up in your work, letting go of that role isn't just a financial transition, it's an emotional one too.

I believe one of the most important parts of retirement planning is remembering that your value doesn't disappear when your paycheck changes.

Your worth was never determined by your income in the first place.

One of the nice things about being 5 or 10 years away from retirement is that you don't have to wait until you retire to start exploring what comes next.

Thinking about volunteering?

Curious about living somewhere else?

Wondering what hobbies or activities you might enjoy?

You don't have to make a permanent decision today.

Sometimes a small experiment can tell you more than months of thinking about it.

One of the best parts of my job is watching someone's shoulders relax when they realize a financial topic isn't nearly as complicated as they thought.

That's what I hope every conversation about money does.

Not overwhelm you with information.

Just leave you feeling a little more confident than when you started.

You don't have to become an expert.

You just have to understand enough to feel comfortable asking questions and making informed decisions.

If there’s something about your finances that you’ve been trying to figure out, you don’t have to sort through it on your own. Book a complimentary call with our team, and we can start with your questions.

When we think about retirement planning, most of us focus on the financial side.

But building a fulfilling retirement takes more than saving for the future.

It also means investing in your relationships, your community, your interests, and your sense of purpose.

The goal isn't just to "retire" from work, it's to "retire" to a life that feels meaningful.

Waiting until you feel motivated to start retirement planning can keep you stuck for years.

Often, the motivation comes after you take the first step.

Retirement can feel like there’s so much to think about that getting started is the hardest part.

But once you do, you begin to build momentum. And sometimes that momentum is exactly what you need to keep moving forward.

You don’t have to figure it all out at once. You just have to get started.

When people hear "estate planning," they often think about wills, taxes, and legal documents.

Those things matter.

But I also think about the people who are left trying to figure everything out after someone is gone.

Having your wishes documented and your affairs organized won't make a difficult time easy.

It can simply make it a little less complicated.

That's why I think estate planning is really about taking care of the people you love, even when you can't be there to do it yourself.

If you've been putting off estate planning because it feels complicated or overwhelming, Episode 138 of Take Back Retirement is a good place to start.

We talk through what you need to know and why getting these pieces in place matters for you and the people you love.

Retirement planning isn't only about how much you've saved.

It's also about thinking about the life you want to be able to live.

For me, that includes working with a personal trainer twice a week because I know I wouldn't lift weights on my own.

It's an investment I'm making in my health now that I hope will continue to pay off in the years ahead.

Not every retirement decision has to be permanent.

If you're thinking about moving somewhere new, spending more time traveling, or trying a different lifestyle, give yourself permission to test it out first.

Rent an Airbnb. Stay for a few weeks. See what everyday life actually feels like.

It may cost a little money to experiment, but this is the next chapter of your life. It's worth taking the time to figure out what feels right for you.

One thing I've noticed over the years is that people don't usually need a complicated explanation.

They just need someone to explain it in plain English.

That's what I hope every conversation about money does.

Not overwhelm you with information.

Just leave you feeling a little more confident than when you started.

And if there’s something about your own retirement or finances that you’d like help making sense of, book a complimentary call with our team. We can talk it through.
