FREE HOME WEATHERIZATION SERVICES AVAILABLE FOR BIRMINGHAM RESIDENTS
BIRMINGHAM, AL â Community Action Agency of Northeast Alabama (CAANEAL) has announced an open call for applicants for its Weatherization Assistance Program. This initiative provides NO-COST energy efficiency upgrades to low-income homeowners in Birmingham neighborhoods, aiming to lower monthly utility bills and improve overall home safety.
The program is currently prioritizing residents in Acipco-Finley, Collegeville, Fairmont, Harriman Park, Hooper City, and North Birmingham.
The Weatherization Assistance Program is a grant-funded initiative designed to reduce energy consumption by "tightening" the envelope of a home. This process prevents outside air infiltration, which not only lowers utility costs but also protects the health and safety of the inhabitants.
The measures provided can include:
⢠Insulation: Attic, floor, duct, and dense-pack sidewall insulation.
⢠Air Sealing: Professional sealing to reduce drafts.
⢠HVAC Services: Heater repairs or replacement when applicable.
⢠General Safety: Energy-saving measures and health-related home improvements.
To qualify for these free services, applicants must meet low-income guidelines, provide proof of residency and home ownership.
Applicants are required to provide the following documentation at the time of their appointment:
⢠Photo ID and Social Security Cards
⢠Proof of Income
⢠Utility Documentation
⢠Ownership Verification
As the number of homes that can be weatherized is determined by federal and state grant allocations, CAANEAL encourages eligible residents to apply as soon as possible.
