Online scams are getting more sophisticated, and people with savings and invested assets are increasingly attractive targets.
A few simple habits can dramatically reduce your risk:
• *DON'T CLICK SPONSORED LINKS* to access your bank, brokerage, or financial accounts. Type the website in yourself or use a saved bookmark.
• *HANG UP AND CALL BACK* If your bank, advisor, brokerage firm, or another financial institution calls unexpectedly, call them back using a number you already know is legitimate.
• *NEVER SHARE LOGIN VERIFICATION CODES* A legitimate employee should not need the one-time security code that was just texted to your phone.
• *BE SUSPICIOUS OF URGENCY* “You need to act right now” is one of the oldest tricks in the book. Slow down and verify what you’re being told.
• *CHANGE YOUR PASSWORDS REGULARLY* on anything connected to your money.
We take cybersecurity at our firm very seriously and with the increasing capability of AI this issue is only going to increase in prevalence.
Pay attention, it's not rude to tell someone no when you don't feel comfortable, especially when it pertains to your money. If it's legitimate they'll have no problem waiting, if they try to rush you or talk you out of verifying things, that should be a huge red flag.
Stay safe!!!
