YES - full stop.

If you're working with a tax preparer, they need to have their Preparer Tax Identification Number (PTIN).

According to the IRS, "Anyone who prepares or assists in preparing federal tax returns for compensation must have a valid 2023 PTIN before preparing returns. All enrolled agents must also have a valid PTIN."

If you're paying someone to do your taxes, you need to make sure you know they have a PTIN. Don't be afraid to ask for proof!

Having a PTIN alone isn't an indication of a tax preparer's skills or experience, but it does show they've at least complied with the minimum requirements to charge for their services.

📆 Taxes are going to be due before you know it! Have you sent all of your tax documents to your accountant yet?

My deadline for sending in tax documents is February 15th for business returns and March 15th for personal returns. After that, I will begin working on filing extensions.

Let me let you in on a little secret, it doesn't HAVE to be like this...

Want to know the easiest way to have a stress-free tax season this year?

Working with a tax professional!

All biases aside, a tax accountant can help you feel confident that your taxes are filed in an accurate and timely manner.

Today I'm addressing some of my most Frequently Asked Questions by my self-employed clients.

If you're new to being self-employed, it's time to talk to a tax professional to make sure you're in compliance.

The last thing you want to do is get hit with a HUGE tax bill because you didn't know you had to pay estimated taxes.

As we begin Black History Month, l wanted to take a moment to recognize the unique challenges faced by women-owned small businesses, especially those owned by Black women.

I am committed to promoting diversity and inclusion in my client base and actively working to break down barriers for my target clients.

As you know, I am currently on a waitlist for taking on new clients. However, I actually left a couple spots open intentionally.

In honor of Black History Month and to help improve the diversity in my client base, I am offering a limited number of spots to any black-owned small businesses during the month of February.

If you are, or know of any, black-owned small businesses who could use some assistance filing their taxes this year, come slide into my DMs 😏

In addition, I hope all of my followers will join me in supporting and empowering African American women in business. Let's come together to create a more equitable future for all women-owned small businesses. 🖤🤎🤍

🚘 DON'T FORGET🚘

For those who deduct their mileage, the IRS changed the deduction rate halfway through the year!

From January 1 to June 30, the standard mileage deduction was 58.5 cents/mile.

From July 1 to December 31, the standard mileage deduction increased to 62.5 cents/mile.

*Pssst* this is the EASIEST (and most necessary!) way to start saving on your taxes. 💸

It's this simple...

Track your business expenses! I'm talking EVERY. SINGLE. ONE.

💸 You can't deduct something you didn't track. And less deductions → higher taxable income → higher taxes paid.

📣 LAST CALL FOR 1099s!!!!!!📣

1099-NECs are due to the IRS in ONE WEEK!!!

1099s are confusing - and you may be obligated to file them (or receive them!) as a business owner.

Here’s one last refresher on who, how much, and when you need to be worrying about your 1099s!

Welp, the moment I’ve been dreading is finally here 😅

Y’all I absolutely haaaaate the idea of turning away people who need help. 😫

But I also want to make sure that I am able to provide personal and quality service to each of my clients.

That being said - I am currently pausing my discovery call process while I work through my existing inquiries and client work. (If you’re on my calendar already, you’re good to go!)

I have high hopes of being able to take on additional clients for 2022 tax returns though!

So if you are interested, I’ve set up a waitlist that I’ll pull from first-come first-serve as I have more availability.
