Do you drive much for business? Best practices:
1) Take a picture of your odometer so that you can figure your total mileage for the year. This is especially important if you deduct actual expenses rather than standard mileage.
2) Download a mileage tracking app. That way you don't have to write down the starting and ending mileage for every trip, just categorize each trip as business or personal.
3) Remember, you can't write off commuting to your main office and back, but you can write off miles driving between locations, visiting clients, or going to business conferences or events. If you have a mobile business or drive Uber/DoorDash/etc, your "commute" is your trip to your first location/pick-up and your trip home from your last.
Mileage can make a big difference to your taxes. If you have questions on how to deduct it properly, message us and we can help you get organized.
