I passed NASAA’s Series 65 examination, the Uniform Investment Adviser Law Examination, which is administered by FINRA.

The Series 65 license allows me to give general financial advice to investors which is perfect because I’m full of terrible opinions.

I’ve passed six examinations over the past three years: the Massachusetts life insurance producer examination, the SIE, the Series 6, the Series 63, the Series 65 and NMLS’s Mortgage Loan Originator (MLO) examination. I passed each of those examinations on my first attempt. I’ve been called “smart” by some people but, honestly, I’ve been prepared.

I’ve spent, cumulatively, hundreds of hours over the past few years preparing for the examinations.

I’ve, in my past, passed Massachusetts’ Construction Supervisor License (CSL) examination, Massachusetts’ Real Estate Salespersons and Massachusetts’ Real Estate Brokers examinations.

I have one more examination to pass, the Series 26, but that examination, reportedly, is not as tough as the Series 65 examination.

I’m 50-years-old. It’s late to be switching careers but the timing is right. My youngest daughter is 3-years-old which means that she’ll be starting kindergarten in 2025; I’ll have the house, without screaming children, from 8 AM until 3 PM.

You may’ve noticed that the image accompanying this post makes me look like a hirsute psychopath à la Walter White; I, too, have noticed but I don’t care.

I couldn’t have passed the examinations without Primerica; the company has been an excellent partner for me over the past few years.

Primerica has started a new training series called “Fifty on Friday”… I’ve attended all three webinars; there are more scheduled. I’ve watched training, so far, from Invesco US, Franklin Templeton and July Business Services…

I have to say that I loved last Friday’s presentation by Brian Smith of JULY Business Services… I’m new to the investment world. I don’t need sales training, I’ve been selling real estate since 1999, or any of the theoretical stuff, I’ve got a B.S. in finance, but I do need to learn the nuts and bolts. Brian provided an overview of JULY’s business…

He went from point to point to point in less than 50 minutes… The best part? He stayed away, completely, from all that “rah rah” stuff…

If you want some of that “rah rah” stuff, I recommend: Glengarry Glen Ross; The Wolf of Wall Street; and Boiler Room…

I look forward to watching presentations from more business partners including Sage Advisory Services, Ltd. Co., Meeder Investment Management, Brighthouse Financial, BNY Mellon, Lincoln Financial Group, Morningstar, Inc., AGF Investments, Equitable, Horizon Investments, Nuveen, a TIAA company, Genter Capital Management, Cuna Mutual, Corebridge Financial, Dana Investment Advisors, Voya Financial, Aspire Financial Services, Fidelity Investments, Capital Group and American Century Investments over the next few months.
