It’s Not the Numbers

Have you ever sat down to look at your finances and felt overwhelmed within ten minutes?
Different accounts. Different statements. Nothing seems to connect.

What surprised me is that the overwhelm may not be about the finances themselves. It may be what happens when you cannot see how all the pieces fit together.

And when everything feels scattered, shutting down can feel easier than trying to sort through it.

Have you ever avoided looking at something because you did not know where to begin?

Wondering what your next financial step should be? Let's talk. Email Paula at [email protected].

When I started writing Retiring on Purpose, I knew I wanted it to cover the financial pieces of retirement. Social Security, taxes, healthcare, long-term care, retirement income, and estate planning all matter.

I also knew retirement involves the life you are building around those numbers. How do you want to spend your time? What will bring you joy? Where do you want to live? Who do you want beside you?

That is why this book begins with your life and then helps you understand the financial decisions that can support it.

If you are beginning to think about your own next chapter, I would love for you to take a look.

The Question Nobody Wants to Say Out Loud

There's a question I hear underneath a lot of retirement conversations.
Not "Will I have enough?"

But something a little deeper.
What if I live longer than my money?

It's not always said out loud, but it's there.
And honestly, I understand why.

When that fear is sitting in the background, it's hard to relax. Hard to enjoy what you've worked so hard to build. Hard to stop running the numbers over and over in your head.

What I've come to realize is that peace of mind doesn't come from hoping everything works out. It comes from knowing there's a plan.

Have you ever caught yourself worrying about the future, even when everything looks okay on paper?

The Part Nobody Warns You About

Something I find myself talking about more and more is the first year of retirement.

We spend years focused on saving, investing, and preparing financially. But what surprised me is how often people aren't prepared for the shift itself.

One day your calendar is full. Your routine is familiar. Decisions are made for you.

Then suddenly... it's all yours.
Your time. Your money. Your choices.

It's exciting. But it can also feel a little unsettling in ways people don't always expect.

The closer I get to these conversations, the more I realize retirement isn't just about leaving work. It's about stepping into something new.

What do you think would be the hardest adjustment during your first year of retirement?

Faster Isn't Always About More. Sometimes It's About How.

One of the most common things Deanna Grove hears is:
"I already take vitamins. Why would I need IV therapy?"

Her answer isn't that vitamins don't matter. It's that the body processes nutrients differently depending on how they're delivered.

In this conversation, Deana explains that when you swallow vitamins or drink water, your body naturally processes them through several stages before they reach your bloodstream. IV hydration follows a different path, which is why people often notice the effects more quickly.

Understanding how our bodies work can change the way we think about wellness. Sometimes it's not about doing more. It's about understanding the process.

The Best Business Ideas Come from Listening

Deana Grove didn't build the Hydration Well around what she thought people should want.

She built it around what they kept asking for.

After years of listening to clients, she realized not everyone was comfortable with IV therapy. Instead of expecting people to fit one solution, she looked for another way to support them. That's what led her to add an oxygen bar.

What surprised her most wasn't simply how popular it became. It was the response from clients, who often shared that they felt more energized and mentally refreshed afterward.

It's a reminder that the strongest businesses aren't built on assumptions.

They're built by listening closely enough to understand what people actually need.

I Didn't Expect Hydration to Change My Thinking

I thought I was just getting hydrated.
What I didn't expect was how much clearer my thinking became.

As I talked with Deana Grove, I realized that sometimes we adapt to feeling less than our best without even recognizing it. Then something changes, and you wonder, Was I feeling like that all along?

Deanna shared that this is one of the reasons she loves what she does. She gets to watch people come in feeling completely depleted and, in many cases, leave feeling like themselves again in less than an hour.

No, it doesn't magically make everything perfect. As I said during our conversation, it may not get you back to 100%.
But feeling noticeably better can change your entire day.

It's a good reminder that before we assume we need a complicated solution, it's worth asking whether our bodies are simply missing something essential.

The Numbers Didn't Change

Something I've noticed over the years surprised me.

People often tell me they'll feel better once they have more money.
More saved. More invested. More security.

But what I've seen is that the feeling they're chasing usually isn't about having more.
It's about understanding what they already have.

Because when your money feels unclear, it can feel like it's controlling you. The uncertainty creates stress, even when the numbers themselves aren't the problem.

And sometimes nothing changes except your understanding of it.

The numbers stay exactly the same, but everything feels different.

Have you ever realized that what you needed wasn't more... it was clarity?

IV hydration is not just for hangovers.

That may be what gets the most attention, but it is only a small part of the conversation.

In this new episode of *Unstoppable*, Paula sits down with Deana Grove, founder of The Hydration Well, to explore why people are turning to IV hydration for travel, energy, recovery, mental clarity, and overall wellness.

They also discuss:

💧 The difference between IV hydration and vitamin injections
💧 Why hydration can affect how clearly you think
💧 What NAD, glutathione, B12, and oxygen therapy are
💧 How often someone might consider IV hydration
💧 What to look for before choosing an IV clinic

Could something as simple as hydration be affecting how you feel more than you realize?

Confidence Isn't the Absence of Fear

One of the biggest misconceptions we have is that confident people aren't afraid.
They are.
They just don't let fear make the decision.

What stood out to me in this conversation was the idea of "doing it scared."
Not waiting until you're ready.
Not waiting until you're certain.
Not waiting until that little voice in your head finally goes quiet.

Because for most of us, it never does.

There's always a voice whispering:
What if you fail?
What if you're not good enough?
What if this doesn't work?

But every time we let fear decide, we reinforce the belief that we're not capable.

And every time we move forward anyway, we build trust with ourselves.
That's the part I think people miss.

Confidence isn't built by avoiding hard things.
It's built by proving to yourself that you can handle them.

Fear may come along for the ride.
But it doesn't have to hold the steering wheel.

When you look back on your life, was there a moment when you did something scared and it changed everything?
