The September estimated-tax deadline will be here before we know it.

Now is a good time for business owners, self-employed professionals and taxpayers with income not subject to withholding to compare year-to-date results with their previous estimates.

Reviewing the numbers early gives you time to account for:

- Changes in business income
- Capital gains or investment income
- New deductions or equipment purchases
- Changes in payroll or withholding
- Major personal or business events

An estimate based on current information is far more useful than one based on last year’s assumptions. Contact LLT if your third-quarter projection needs a refresh. https://www.lltcpas.com/contact

Tax scams don’t take the summer off!

The IRS and Security Summit recently warned tax professionals about phishing messages designed to steal taxpayer information. Businesses and individuals should be equally cautious, especially when an email creates urgency, requests login credentials or asks you to open an unexpected attachment.

Before clicking:
1. Check the sender’s full address.
2. Contact the supposed sender through a known channel.
3. Never provide tax or banking credentials by email.
4. Report suspicious messages to your IT team promptly.

One careful pause can prevent an expensive data breach.

Good compliance habits may now come with an added benefit!

The IRS is introducing an Automatic Exemption from Penalty program for eligible taxpayers with a strong filing and payment history. The program can prevent certain failure-to-file, failure-to-pay and failure-to-deposit penalties from being assessed during return processing, without requiring a separate application.

Eligibility is specific, and the relief does not eliminate the underlying tax or interest owed. If you receive an IRS notice, don’t assume it has already been handled. Let’s review the details before you respond. Contact: https://www.lltcpas.com/contact

Report Suggests 40% of Workers Have Used AI to Make Fake Expense Receipts

Business owners and accounting professionals know that employee fraud exists in the workplace, and in many ways. While false expense reporting is not a new phenomenon, the rapid rise of artificial intelligence apps appears to have made it easier – and more widespread.

According to a new report by Emburse, a provider of travel and expense management technology, four in ten U.S.-based employees have used AI to generate a fake receipt for a business expense. Specifically:

19% have used AI to completely fabricate a purchase.

15% to increase the value of an item they purchased.

6% have used AI to replace a receipt they lost for a genuine purchase.

Of those, 40% used company-funded AI tools to do so. Nearly one in ten (9%) of respondents have built their own AI tools to generate fake receipts. The research into employee spending behaviors surveyed 2,000 workers in the U.S. and U.K., and was conducted by Atomik Research. It found that employees are using AI tools to commit expense fraud, and they’re using AI tools paid for by their employer to do so. It's the final weekend of the WI State Fair! 🎡🍦🐄

And let’s be honest… it’s pretty easy to walk in with a budget and walk out wondering where all your money went. 😂

Between the cream puffs, cheese curds, rides, games, shopping, and “we're only going to look” purchases, a fun day at the Fair can add up quickly!

So, how are you planning to enjoy the last weekend of the Wisconsin State Fair while still spending wisely?

💰 Set a spending limit before you go?
🍦 Pick your must-have treats and skip the impulse purchases?
🎟️ Look for deals or discounts?
💳 Use cash to keep yourself accountable?

It may seem like a small thing, but the same mindset applies to your overall finances: having fun with your money and managing your cash flow don't have to be opposites.

And while we're talking about money… remember that good financial planning isn't just about what you spend today. There are also opportunities throughout the year to make intentional tax decisions that can help you keep more of what you earn.

So, Wisconsin - what's your strategy for having fun at the Fair without blowing the budget? 👇

Bonus question: What's the ONE Wisconsin State Fair food or activity that makes your budget completely irrelevant? 😂

5 Tips to Build a Healthy Money Mindset and Grow Your Finances

Busy parents juggling work, bills, and everyone else’s needs often carry financial stress like background noise that never turns off. For beginners, the most common financial challenges, unpredictable expenses, lingering debt, and the feeling of being “behind”, can make money management feel emotional instead of practical.

That pressure can drain focus, strain relationships, and lead to avoidant decisions that deepen the anxiety. Personal finance awareness and a healthy financial mindset replace blame with clarity and build the steady confidence needed to make consistent choices with money. Your organization’s financial data is one of its most valuable ~and most targeted~ assets.

The IRS and Security Summit recently launched their annual “Protect Your Clients; Protect Yourself” campaign, highlighting evolving identity-theft and data-security threats.

A strong financial control environment should include more than passwords.

Consider reviewing:

-Multifactor authentication
-Employee access to payroll and accounting systems
-Vendor payment-change procedures
-Secure transmission of tax documents

Data backups and incident-response plans
A short conversation today could prevent a costly disruption tomorrow.

Some taxpayers may now receive IRS penalty relief automatically.

The IRS recently announced a process that can automatically provide certain penalty relief to taxpayers with a history of filing and paying on time.

Previously, eligible taxpayers often had to know relief was available and request it themselves.

This is a welcome change, but it shouldn’t replace timely filing, accurate reporting, or proactive communication when a balance cannot be paid in full!

If you receive an IRS notice, don’t assume the amount is final. Review the notice carefully and consult your tax professional to understand your options.
