EXTREME HEAT: KNOW THE WARNING SIGNS
Heat Exhaustion
Signs may include heavy sweating, weakness, dizziness, headache, nausea, muscle cramps, or cool, clammy skin.
What to do:
• Move to a cool place
• Loosen clothing
• Apply cool, wet cloths
• Sip cool water
• Rest and do not return to strenuous activity
Heatstroke is a medical emergency. Signs may include a temperature of 103°F or higher, confusion, fainting, a severe headache, or hot, red skin that may be dry or damp.
Call 911 immediately. Move the person to a cooler place and cool them with wet cloths, water, or a cool bath. Do not give them anything to drink.
Stay safe:
• Drink water throughout the day
• Wear lightweight, loose clothing
• Limit outdoor activity during the hottest hours
• Never leave children, adults, or pets in a parked car
• Check on older adults and neighbors
• Bring pets inside and provide plenty of water
When temperatures rise, don’t take chances. Stay cool, stay hydrated, and know when to get help.
