To our community,

I want to sincerely thank all 9,746 voters who participated in the TSC Trustee Place 5 race—whether you voted early, by mail, or on Election Day. Your voice matters, and your participation strengthens our community.

A very special thank you to the 1,439 individuals who believed in me and showed their support. I am deeply grateful for your trust and confidence in my vision.

While the outcome was not what we hoped for, my commitment to this community remains unwavering. I will continue advocating for the values that guided this campaign: Integrity, Innovation, Integration, and Inclusivity.

I will proudly continue:

Serving on the TSC Accounting Technology Advisory Board

Working as an educator for special needs adult students

Operating and supporting our community through my local tax office

I remain passionate about the future of our community and optimistic about what lies ahead for this 100-year-old institution.

Congratulations to Edgar Garcia on his victory. I also want to congratulate Adela Garza and JJ De Leon for advancing to the runoff election.

Thank you again for your support, your trust, and your engagement. This is not the end—this is simply part of the journey to continue serving our community.

Respectfully,

Alberto Velez

This campaign has always been personal for me.

As an educator, I’ve dedicated my career to helping students succeed—not just in the classroom, but in life.

Today, I continue that work by supporting students as they transition into careers and independence.

As a parent, I see it from the other side too. My own son is currently in dual enrollment, and I understand how important it is for families to have strong, accessible college opportunities right here at home.

I believe in expanding opportunities—for students who are college-bound, career-bound, and those who just need a second chance.

We can build a stronger, more inclusive future together.

I would be honored to earn your vote.

Tomorrow, we make an important decision for the future of our community college.

I bring over 20 years of experience in education, working directly with students as they prepare for college and careers.

I’ve seen firsthand what works—and what still needs to improve.

I’m also a small business owner, with years of experience in accounting and financial services, and I’ve proudly served on the Texas Southmost College Accounting Technology Advisory Board for over five years.

This role requires someone who understands education, workforce needs, and fiscal responsibility—not just in theory, but through real experience.

I’m ready to serve on day one.

I respectfully ask for your vote.

OFFICIAL CAMPAIGN ANNOUNCEMENT

I am proud to announce my candidacy for Texas Southmost College Board of Trustees, Place 5.

My journey with TSC began in 1997 through the UTB–TSC partnership. I was a Scorpion then, I graduated a Scorpion, and my heart will always be a Scorpion.

For over 20 years, I have served as an educator in Brownsville ISD and for more than five years on the Texas Southmost College Accounting Advisory Board. I know the power of education to transform lives — and I am committed to strengthening programs, supporting students, and advancing the future of TSC.

It would be my honor to serve our community.

Thank you for your support.
Let the campaign begin.

ANUNCIO OFICIAL DE CAMPAÑA

Me enorgullece anunciar mi candidatura para Texas Southmost College Board of Trustees, Lugar 5.

BREAKING NEWS:
Supreme Court Revives BOI Reporting

Today the U.S. Supreme Court issued an order reviving the Corporate Transparency Act (CTA) and its Beneficial Ownership Information (BOI) reporting requirements. Reporting entities established before 2024 had been required to file an initial BOI report with the Financial Crimes Enforcement Network (FinCEN) by Jan. 13. However, the U.S. Court of Appeals for the 5th Circuit issued a Dec. 26 stay pausing enforcement of reporting requirements while it considered the case.

The Supreme Court's two-page order did not provide the reasons for reversing the 5th Circuit's stay on CTA enforcement, but the high court said the act can be enforced until the 5th Circuit has issued a decision as to its constitutionality. The order also said the CTA would remain in force while the Supreme Court was considering whether to hear any appeals of the 5th Circuit's ruling on the CTA.

FinCEN has yet to respond to the Supreme Court's order and it is not clear when businesses will be required to file their initial BOI report with the agency. We will continue to monitor developments regarding BOI reporting and alert you to any changes or updates as they occur.
