The Treasury Department has unveiled its new App for Trump Accounts. The department has also stated that it will be sending out information and instructions to eligible families who have already submitted Form 4547 in phases over the next 5ish weeks. If you have a child born between 1/1/2025 and 12/31/2028 the Treasury will make a $1,000 contribution to this account as part of its pilot program. Once 7/4/2026 passes parents, grandparents and other family members, employers, and non-profits can make contributions to these accounts as well.

News from the IRS about those refund notices …

The IRS’s sending of about 1.4 million CP53E notices sparked concerns about errors and fraud. A release from the Taxpayer Advocate Service urged taxpayers to verify their accounts directly on IRS.gov.

FYI / PSA - I have clients receiving notices that they are receiving refunds from the IRS ... except the notices are giving them credit for estimated payments they did not actually make. There is something major going wrong with the IRS as we are seeing 3-4 different kinds of notices going out with erroneous information. We are seeing notices that refunds are due to taxpayers who actually owed tax, these notices about refunds due to taxpayers with incorrect estimated payment information, an inability to properly process extension payments, and other issues. I'm not sure if their use of AI is to blame or the severe understaffing, but it's a mess!

It appears that the IRS had some technical issues processing extension payments. If you received a letter from the IRS that your payment could not be processed AND you did not see the payment come out of your account please go directly to www.irs.gov/payments and make the payment on your own ASAP avoid penalties / interest.
