Never get complacent with your financial advisor.

You're paying them a fee. In many cases, it's one of the biggest professional fees you pay each year.

So let me ask you this:

When was the last time you gave your financial advisor a performance review?

Is your advisor still the right fit for where you are today? Are they providing value? Are they helping you make better financial decisions, or have you just kept them because it's easier than asking questions?

Your life changes. Your career changes. Your goals change.

Your financial advisor should be keeping up with those changes.

If you haven't reviewed your advisor relationship in a while, this article walks through when you should and what questions you should be asking.

Most shop insurance every few years but never review their financial advisor. Learn to evaluate your advisor with Questions to ask every year.

**Your financial advisor works for someone. Do you know who?**

If you work with a big box financial firm, ask yourself a few questions.

Have they tried to sell you insurance?

Have they recommended their own company's investment products?

Can you leave without paying a fee?

Many advisors at large national firms are expected to sell company products and managed accounts. Their office may be in your community, but most of the money you pay leaves your community.

Independent advisors have the freedom to recommend what they believe is best for you, not what their employer plugs with weekly sales sheets.

That doesn't make every independent advisor better. But it does mean you should understand who you're working with, how they are paid, and whether they're still the right fit for your life.

You shop for insurance. You compare mortgage rates.

Maybe it's time to ask whether your financial advisor is still the right fit.

I spend a lot of time talking to high school students about finances and I heard something last week that will never make me question that time again.

A teacher shared that one of their students got a summer job, opened a Roth IRA, and started contributing from her paycheck.

A high school student. Investing for retirement. On her own.

Think about the impact of that decision. Most ADULTS don't start saving for retirement until their 30s, and this student is getting a head start before she's even graduated high school!

One student just completely changed their future. She might even retire before you do.

It also serves as a reminder that young people are capable of far more than we sometimes give them credit for. They don't need to know everything about money. They just need someone to start the conversation.

Parents. Teachers. Coaches. Mentors.

Never underestimate the impact you can have by teaching a young person about money. One lesson, one conversation, or one idea can completely change the trajectory of their financial future.

When we teach kids about money early, we're not just teaching dollars and cents, we're helping create opportunities, choices, and freedom for the rest of their lives.

And if you need help with that, I love having those conversations.

Are you the same person you were when you got your first job?

Of course not.

Your life has changed. Your career has changed.

Your priorities have changed. Your values have changed.

But how many people chose a financial advisor years ago and never reevaluated that decision?

As you've changed, have you ever stopped to ask whether your advisor is still the right fit for you?

In my latest blog post, I explore why reviewing your advisor relationship every few years makes sense and share 5 questions everyone should be asking their financial advisor.

There are always a lot of questions when your employer is sold or changes hands. The biggest question should focus on you:

What happens to your retirement account?

You likely have options:
• Leave it with the existing company plan
• Move it into your new employer’s plan
• Roll it into an IRA that you control

The important thing is understanding what options are available and figuring out what works best for your situation, not just what the company suggests.
