We want to congratulate Mr. Brandon on passing his 6th Degree Black Belt testing! This accomplishment represents years of dedication, perseverance, sacrifice, and commitment to martial arts — but what we are most proud of is the leader you have become along the way.

A great instructor teaches technique.
A great leader teaches by example.

You push your students to believe in themselves, you challenge them to become better, and you are there to celebrate their victories and help them through their struggles. The lessons you teach go far beyond the mats, and the impact you have made on so many students and families is something a belt could never measure.

Penny for your thoughts? Soon you might not need one.

Starting August 28, Missouri retailers can start rounding cash purchases to the nearest nickel, a small shift as pennies phase out of production. Cards and digital payments aren't affected at all.

Here's the wording that we received from the state of Missouri via email today:

Dear Missouri Retailers and Business Owners,

The Department of Revenue (DOR) is issuing this letter to provide information regarding recently passed legislation (HB 2819 that goes into effect August 28, 2026) that allows vendors to round purchase totals on cash transactions.

The purpose of this legislation is to simplify low‑denomination cash handling, reduce reliance on pennies, and ensure proper sales tax collection and remittance.

Key Provisions for Retailers and Businesses

Rounding applies only to CASH transactions.
Rounding may be used only on the final total of a purchase, after all items, discounts, and taxes have been calculated.

Round Down: Final cent totals ending in 1, 2, 6, or 7
Round Up: Final cent totals ending in 3, 4, 8, or 9
Examples:

A $1.92 total rounds down to $1.90.
A $1.93 total rounds up to $1.95.

Non‑cash payments must NOT be rounded.
Credit, debit, mobile/online payments, checks, or any non‑cash method must reflect the exact calculated amount with no rounding.

Rounding does not change your tax obligations.
Sales tax must continue to be calculated and remitted exactly as required. Rounding affects only the customer‑facing cash total not the tax you report.

Good‑faith protection is included.
Businesses that follow the law’s rounding rules in good faith are not considered in violation of any state or local regulation or standard.

No impact on local tax distribution.
The state’s existing process for handling under‑remitted local taxes remains unchanged.
What This Means for Your Business

You may begin using penny‑rounding on cash transactions starting August 28, 2026.
You are not required to round; this is optional.
There are no changes to how you calculate, report, or remit sales tax.
You may want to update staff procedures or point‑of‑sale instructions to ensure rounding is applied properly and only when allowed.

Bring Your Youngest Daughter to Work Day was a good one. She shredded papers like a pro and reminded all of us why we do what we do. Someday she'll know what a W-2 is, but for now, snacks and stickers are payment enough.
Her best friend "Hop hop" joined, too.

Happy Juneteenth from Kennard Accounting.
On June 19, 1865, the last enslaved people in Galveston, Texas learned they were free, more than two years after the Emancipation Proclamation. Today we honor that history and what it means for freedom and equality everywhere.
As Opal Lee, often called the Grandmother of Juneteenth, put it: "None of us are free until we're all free."
Wishing everyone in the Cape Girardeau area a meaningful Juneteenth.

Have you opened a Trump Account for your child this year? I wanted to share a quick update on what happens next.

Filing Form 4547 reserves your spot. It doesn't open or fund the account right away. You may have had us file this form FOR you when we did your taxes.

Treasury activation instructions were expected to begin in May 2026.
If you opted into the $1,000 pilot program, that deposit won't land until after activation, and not before July 4, 2026.
Hang onto your form and any letters you receive in the mail.
