The world feels like it's on fire so it was so lovely and genuinely refreshing to attend an event sponsored by the IDA - Industrial Development Agency of the Town of Hempstead, this morning and learn about the projects and economic successes in my own back yard.

The Town of Hempstead IDA is a non-profit, public benefit agency with special powers of authority by the state of New York to promote economic development and jobs by helping businesses grow with financial assistance and tax relief.

Speaker was John R. Ferretti, Jr. who is the Supervisor of the , having taken office on August 5, 2025. A former four-term Nassau County Legislator, he recently introduced a $591.7 million -freeze budget for 2027 following an 18% General Fund tax cut in 2026. An update on different initiatives and completed projects around the town were delivered and I have to admit - I am overjoyed to hear that real strides are being made in making life on Long Island's best and biggest township, Nassau County, is succeeding.

The IRS just clarified the "no tax on overtime" deduction for 2026, and it's a lot more straightforward than last year. Employers will now report the exact amount on your W-2, so no more digging through pay stubs to figure it out yourself.
