Is AI the next dot-com bubble? The rise of artificial intelligence has created massive excitement in the markets. Investors are pouring into AI stocks, valuations are expanding, and a handful of companies are dominating performance.

Sound familiar? For many, it feels a lot like the late 1990s. But is this truly a repeat of the dot-com bubble, or is something fundamentally different this time?

Jason and Alex break down the similarities, the differences, and what investors need to understand before making big decisions in today’s AI-driven market.

If you’d like to understand how concentrated your portfolio is, whether you’re overexposed to AI or tech, or how to build a diversified strategy that aligns with your long-term plan, schedule a no-cost, no-obligation consultation with our IDA Wealth team: https://na2.hubs.ly/H04FkM70

Should you hold cash and wait for the next market crash? The idea of keeping “dry powder” cash on the sidelines waiting for the perfect moment to invest may sound smart. Some investors believe they can step aside during uncertain markets and jump back in when prices fall.

However, attempting to time market movements can be difficult in practice. Missing some of the market’s strongest days may have a meaningful impact on long-term investment outcomes.

In this episode of Financial Detox, Jason and Alex discuss the role cash can play in a portfolio, the challenges associated with market timing strategies, and research that compares remaining invested with moving in and out of the market.

If you'd like help evaluating how much cash you should hold, how your portfolio is positioned for long-term growth, or how your investments align with your financial plan, schedule a no-cost, no-obligation consultation with our IDA Wealth team: https://na2.hubs.ly/H04hN3q0

When markets feel volatile, the instinct is to predict the next crash. But in this Financial Detox excerpt, Jason Labrum and Alex Klingensmith explain why volatility isn’t a warning sign - it’s normal.

Market movements and periods of decline are a normal part of investing, and even strong years can feel uncomfortable along the way. The real risk isn’t volatility itself - it’s reacting emotionally without understanding how your portfolio is built.

If recent market swings have you questioning your strategy, this conversation will help you zoom out, reset expectations, and think more clearly.

Is this the next 2000? 2008? 2022?
When markets run higher for years, confidence grows — and when volatility returns, fear follows.

In the new episode of Financial Detox, we break down what volatility actually means, why it’s a normal and necessary part of investing, and how misunderstanding it leads investors to make costly decisions at exactly the wrong time. Drawing on decades of market history and real client experience, this conversation reframes volatility as something to manage - not something to escape.

If you’ve found yourself wondering whether to step aside and “wait it out,” this episode will help you zoom out, think clearly, and make decisions grounded in data rather than headlines.

What if paying some taxes today could result in meaningful tax savings over your lifetime?

In this Financial Detox minisode, Jason Labrum and Alex Klingensmith explain the “retirement tax sweet spot” - a narrow window where proactive Roth conversions can dramatically reduce lifetime taxes and increase long-term flexibility. If you’re approaching retirement or sitting on a large IRA, this is a clip worth watching.

You can own the right investments and still lose money to taxes.

Tax-sensitive asset location is about placing the right assets in the right accounts. An investment that pays a high yield and is taxed as ordinary income may belong inside a tax-deferred account like an IRA, not in a taxable investment or trust account.

In this clip, we explain why simply moving assets to the correct account can dramatically reduce tax drag and improve after-tax results. Most investors never look at this, even though it can be one of the easiest fixes.

The portfolio wasn’t broken, but the taxes were.

In this clip, we walk through a real example where everything looked fine on paper. They were saving well, spending responsibly, and on track to end with significant wealth. The issue was tax drag caused by owning tax-inefficient mutual funds.

By shifting to a direct indexing approach and harvesting losses throughout the year, the portfolio stayed fully invested while reducing taxes along the way. No stock picking. No added risk. Just better structure.

That single change added an estimated $3.3 million to their lifetime outcome by keeping more of what they earned.
