Banks don’t just look at your tax return. They compare it to your books.

And when those don’t match, it raises questions. That’s where trust starts to break down, and financing gets harder.

For photographers, inconsistent income, expenses, or how gear and travel are tracked can create confusion quickly.

Small inconsistencies might not seem like a big deal during the year, but they matter when someone else is evaluating your numbers.

Clean, consistent financials help ensure your story holds up before it’s ever questioned.

This is a big moment for our team and one that reflects exactly who we are.

Andrew Jordan, CPA, and Emma Ball have been invited back to speak at AICPA ENGAGE 2026, one of the accounting profession’s largest national conferences.

At Big Picture CPA, we believe everything we build is intentional - our culture, our leadership, and the way we serve our clients. Being invited to share that perspective on a national stage isn’t just an honor, it’s a reflection of that commitment in action.

From designing people-first workplaces to encouraging intentional, values-driven growth, these sessions represent what we stand for and where we believe the future of accounting is headed.

We’re proud, grateful, and excited to contribute to a more thoughtful, human-centered profession.

Business owners often wait until tax time or financing time to really look at their financials…and that’s when the surprises pop up.

We see it all the time - small bookkeeping issues that seemed minor throughout the year suddenly become big problems when it’s time to file taxes or apply for financing.

Catching things early changes outcomes.

Monthly bookkeeping works best when you take a quick moment to review your numbers. When you need them, they should already be ready.

A quick check each month can go a long way:
• Does it look reasonable?
• Does anything surprise you?
• Did you really spend that much on supplies? 😅

Small check-ins now can save a lot of stress later.

If your CPA can’t clearly explain large adjustments on your business return, that’s a red flag 🚩

You deserve to understand what’s changing, and why, before you sign. Clarity builds confidence, and it’s a key part of making informed financial decisions.

Estimated federal income tax deadlines aren’t actually evenly spaced — which is why so many business owners get surprised by penalties.

The system assumes income is consistent.
Real businesses aren’t.

Federal estimated income tax payment due dates are:
• April 15
• June 15
• September 15
• January 15 (of the following year)

So yes…“quarterly” is kind of a joke — which is why the IRS now labels them Estimated Tax Payment Voucher 1, 2, 3, and 4.
Planning ahead is how you avoid last-minute stress (and unpleasant surprises).

Note: This refers to federal income tax estimated payments. Many states follow a similar schedule, but some differ — always confirm your state’s due dates. This does not apply to PTE tax estimates. Different topic, different rules.

Just found out our article on having better remote meetings, originally published in the Missouri Society of CPAs journal, is getting republished by a different state society for their members.

What we share is how we make remote meetings a positive experience that is part of our vision to be the best place to work for good professionals. Really enjoy creating a different kind of CPA firm with emma ball.
