Okay... but where do you start?

Use my 3As approach:

✅ Analytics
Gather all the data you can through platform analytics, Google analytics, free and paid tools. Stop guessing and use this data to find patterns and get usable insight.

Aren't collecting data yet? The best time to start was six months ago. The next best time is today. (This is your sign.)

✅ Audience
Know your audience! Who are they? What are their needs, their goals, their objections? What are they really searching for? Where do they hang out online? How do they make decisions? Do you have previous clients you can survey for deeper insights, gather testimonials from, or feature in a case study?

✅ Audits
Audit your site, content, or funnels for performance, clarity, and user experience. Find the gaps and opportunities for improvement. Evaluate your positioning and messaging, user experience, and SEO/AEO efforts.

It's not glamorous and it can take time, but this dirty work is foundational to creating a strong digital marketing strategy. You need a roadmap customized to your business, that will grow with you, and that will outlive popular trends.

Should you focus on short-form or long-form content?

Honestly, there isn't one "right" answer.

This is where knowing your audience and their desired platforms/channels comes in handy. So before you plan out your content strategy for the next quarter, take a little time to review the content you put out last year and in Q1.

🔎 Which content efforts led to conversions?
🔎 What are your audience's preferences?
🔎 Which content performed well?
🔎 Which did not?

Use it as a learning opportunity. It is ok if you need to change things up or try a new approach. Then lean into what worked as you plan for Q2.

Q1 is almost over! If you haven't published a case study yet this year, there's still some time to get one out.

🌿 Ask yourself: Which clients have a compelling success story with our service/product? Which clients might be open to sharing that story?

🌿 Reach out to schedule an interview call — like, yesterday.

🌿 Prepare questions to help guide the interview but be open to exploring side trails the client might go on.

🌿 Record the call or capture all the details in a transcript.

🌿 Write up their story with your service/product. What was their challenge? Your solution? The results? Include quotes and data. Review and fine-tune. Let the client review, too.

🌿 Get that success story published! And push it through your marketing campaigns: social, email, and sales.

Case studies highlight the impact of your work and acts as valuable social proof that attracts new clients. Q1 is almost over — don’t miss this opportunity! Start sharing the stories that set your business apart.

Don't waste your H1 page headers on vague copy like "welcome" or your company's name.

This is prime digital real estate. It's often the first thing a visitor sees on page load.

It also helps search engines know what your page is about, and they can match it to search queries.

So make your messaging count!

Consider:

🌿 What do you offer?
🌿 Who do you serve?
🌿 Why does it matter?

Knowing the answers to those questions will transform your H1 copy, making it more impactful and more successful.

The first thing I do when reviewing a website is to right click, inspect, and scan the code for header tags.

Many websites are not properly using the H1 tag for their page's most important headline.

And in some cases, H2s - H6s seem arbitrarily assigned instead of following best practices. (I suspect this has a lot to do with how the heading tags are styled by their themes and templates.)

It is often a simple fix.

That can make a huge difference in both SEO and user experience.

Make sure each page has one — and only one — H1.

And use the H2 - H6 headers to show hierarchy of the page content.
