The IRS has updated its interpretation of the Working Families Tax Cuts.

For the 2025 tax year, families with carryforward amounts from prior years (2020–2024) may now be eligible for a refundable credit of up to $5,000 per child.

You may need to file an extension if you are waiting on your adopted child’s social security number!
The ATIN can only be used to claim the $500 Other Dependent Credit, not the $2,200 Child Tax Credit!
