Money and mental health, how are they related?

Money stress is not just a financial problem. It shows up as anxiety, shame, avoidance, relationship conflict, and burnout. Dimensional Wealth has worked with people as young as 8 and as old as 78. Across every age, every income level, the pattern is the same: our relationship with money is personal, emotional, and often inherited.

Financial therapy addresses the emotional and behavioral relationship with money that drives every financial decision you make.

What is your relationship with money, and how was it shaped by your story?

This question has become central to both Jaelyn Vickery, CFT™'s personal journey and work as a Certified Financial Therapist at Dimensional Wealth.

This April, JaeVic had the honor of serving as emcee for the first-ever That’s What She Said: Campus Edition at the University of Illinois. An evening centered around women’s storytelling, vulnerability, leadership, and community connection.

In her newest blog, Jae reflects on:

• storytelling and financial wellness

• how emotional experiences shape money behaviors

• the power of women’s voices and community

• her own journey from student-athlete to financial therapist

3 things I wish I remembered about money:

1. Money is a game.
2. Money is emotions disguised as numbers.
3. Money doesn’t have to be a stressful journey.

If you’re ready to build differently, work with Dimensional Wealth. 💸

The only way to learn about money is to talk about money.

Dimensional Wealth recently partnered with FUEL and Iota Delta Psi at the University of Illinois for a conversation on financial literacy, wellness, and the impact of generational knowledge. Students explored how money is influenced by psychology, relationships, and emotions, not just budgets.

Want to normalize money conversations and feel more confident about your finances?

Dimensional Wealth offers workshops, coaching, and resources to help you reduce financial stress and communicate with confidence.

Most kids don’t learn about money from a textbook.

They learn about it from birthday cards, candy at the grocery store checkout, and doing the dishes for a few dollars.

During a recent Financial Literacy & Wellness workshop with teens at the Phillips Recreation Center through the Urbana Park District, we started with one simple question:

“What’s your first money memory?”

The answers revealed something powerful — our money habits, beliefs, and financial confidence begin forming long before adulthood.

In my newest blog, I explore:

• Why talking about money with kids matters
• How chores and small responsibilities shape financial habits
• What research says about financial confidence and well-being
• Why financial literacy starts with conversation, not spreadsheets

If we want the next generation to build healthier relationships with money, we have to start by talking about it.

Financial intelligence doesn’t grow in silence. It grows through conversations — hearing different perspectives, challenging old beliefs, and learning how other people think about money.

But if our emotions take over the moment someone sees money differently than we do… the conversation shuts down, and so does the opportunity to learn.

The more open we are to talking about money, the more financially intelligent we become.

If you want to grow in the way you think about money (and life), connect with us at Dimensional Wealth.
