Business owners, before we start talking about everything we want to do in 2027, we need to ask a different question:

What still needs to be handled in 2026?

Are the books actually reconciled?

Do you know your real tax position?

Is payroll where it needs to be?

Is there a compliance issue that has been sitting in the background?

Does your current business structure still make sense for where you are going?

Because what we leave unresolved at year-end does not disappear.

We carry it with us.

That is why we created The Final Corner™.

This is about taking a deliberate look at what needs to be closed, corrected, resolved, or repositioned before the year turns.

And then we can talk about expansion.

Close what’s open.
Position what’s next.

“I want a ’70s photoshoot.”

That was pretty much the direction I gave C. Renee, my Fairy Branding Godmother and the creative director behind so many of my shoots over the years.
I knew the energy I wanted. I knew the era. I knew how I wanted it to feel. I just didn’t necessarily know how we were going to create it.

But that is the beauty of a real creative process.

You bring an idea into a room with people who know how to see it, stretch it, style it, light it, photograph it, and turn it into something that feels like you.

Later came another shoot with my son at the Canopy, this time with more of that 1950s energy. Different era. Different story. Same thing: real people creating something together.

And that is the part of branding I don’t believe AI can ever fully replace.

I understand why people use AI photos. They are cost-effective. They are time-effective. I use AI too.

But a real photoshoot does something AI cannot do.

It creates a room.

There is the photographer. The makeup artist. The stylist. The creative director. The assistants. The venue. Sometimes four, five, six people touching one vision before the final image ever exists.

And every single time I have done that, those relationships have extended beyond the shoot.

Someone refers me.

Someone mentions my name in another room.

Someone connects me to a speaking opportunity.

Someone becomes familiar enough with my work to say, “You need to meet Adrian.”

That is branding too.

Actually, that may be one of the most important parts of branding.
AI can help create an image of you. AI can even help you develop a brand.
But you cannot brand AI.

You cannot leave such an impression on an algorithm that it thinks about you three months later when somebody says they need a speaker, a strategist, or a woman with a very specific presence.

People do that.

Human beings do that.

So yes, I will continue using AI where it makes sense. But I will also continue investing in the photoshoot, the creative team, the makeup chair, the styling, and the ridiculous idea that starts with, “C. Renee, I want to do the ’70s.”

Because the most valuable thing created on a photoshoot may not be the picture at all.

It may be the five people standing just outside the frame who now know your name.

And because this was a full-blown set, let me give the people behind the frame their flowers:

Every now and then, the algorithm makes its rounds and reminds me how much my family, the Richardsons, are appreciated and celebrated across social media through the Black Soil exhibit.

The photographer, Torsten Kjellstrand was a master’s candidate at the Missouri School of Journalism in the early ‘90s, and for his capstone project, he tasked himself with photographing Black farmers in the bootheel of Missouri.

I keep rockin’ the DNA in the business because it represents legacy. I simply cannot shake the Midwest work ethic that I witnessed as a little girl, as my mom and dad would take me to visit. My mom always reminded me of the hard work it was being a daughter of a farmer. Those memories are ingrained, and I operate from my DNA constantly.

Because of that, I have a deep-rooted appreciation for the life cycle of business.

It’s in my DNA.

I like to extend a special thanks to AFRICAN AND BLACK HISTORY for honoring my family’s legacy.

Influencers love to gaslight by pitching they can help “scale” your business but never ask clients for their financials e.g., profit and loss, balance sheets, chart of accounts, payment cycle, platforms in which the performance obligations are originally created during the intake process.

I am offended. If a consultant says they can help your business grow and doesn’t enlist the accountant or request financials, file it under sus.

Sus, I think that’s what the kids are calling it these day.
