Well, is exceeding my expectations.
I’m here this week as an Accounting Cornerstone Foundation Scholarship recipient, and Day 1 has genuinely been one of the best conference days I’ve experienced.
I’ve attended a lot of conferences over the years, and there’s usually a point when I step outside, take a walk, or head back to the hotel for a break. Not today. The content, conversations and expo hall have been that good.
A few things really stood out:
AI isn’t making me question the value I bring to clients. It’s making that value even clearer.
Xero calls its approach “accountable intelligence” — AI built specifically for accounting and small business, with security, accuracy, transparency and human judgment at the center.
That’s exciting to me because I don’t want to become an expert in dozens of generic AI tools. I want to partner with companies doing that work responsibly so I can spend more time on what my clients actually need from me: judgment, decision-making, risk reduction, financial clarity and peace of mind.
I also loved Xero’s clear investment in the partnership with accountants and bookkeepers. The goal isn’t to remove us from the equation. It’s to use technology to help us serve small businesses at a higher level.
That is exactly how I want to keep building WaveCrest Group, as a technology-enabled finance partner, not simply someone reconciling bank accounts.
And one of my favorite reminders of the day came from Simon Curran with All Blacks Performance Labs:
The hardest place to play anything from is stationary.
We’re all navigating a pace of change we haven’t seen before. We have to move, adapt and get creative.
I’m especially grateful to the Accounting Cornerstone Foundation team for making this experience possible and for investing in professionals who are continuing to learn, grow and find better ways to serve small businesses.
More to come from . 💙
