What I hear from siblings, once I finally get them in the room, is almost always the same thing. They want to help. That instinct is rarely the issue.

What they don't want is to be handed responsibility with no preparation, in the middle of grief, while also trying to figure out what Medicaid covers and who the representative payee is supposed to be. Most siblings don't resent the role itself. They resent being set up to fail in it.

Clear planning does not burden siblings. It protects them.

It names their role before the crisis arrives. It tells them what authority they have and what support exists around them, so they're not inventing the answers under pressure.

That's one of the most meaningful things a parent can do for every child in the family, not just the one with a disability.
