"Goodness, Progress, and Hope: The Real Story of Our World"
🌎 Friends, in a world that sometimes feels heavy with headlines, let’s pause and celebrate the goodness all around us. Every day, people are showing up with kindness, creativity, and courage. Families care for one another, strangers help strangers, and innovators refuse to accept “impossible.” I’m deeply hopeful—borderline optimistic—that humanity will rise to meet our most pressing challenges and come out stronger on the other side.
We are living in the most advanced era in recorded history. Two centuries ago, average life expectancy was about 30 years to 40 years and roughly 80% of the world lived in extreme poverty. Today, global life expectancy has more than doubled to over 72 years, and extreme poverty has dropped from nearly 38% in 1990 to around 10% today—lifting over a billion people out of destitution through ingenuity, trade, technology, and economic progress. Literacy is at 87% globally. Child mortality is one-tenth what it was 200 years ago. We have more knowledge, more tools, and more capability to solve problems than any generation before us.
And the solutions are already here:
I just got behind the wheel of my 2026 Tesla Model Y—hands-down the best car I’ve ever driven. Zero tailpipe emissions, lightning-fast acceleration, and the lowest cost of ownership of any vehicle on the road (dramatically lower fuel and maintenance expenses than gas cars). It’s a clean, practical answer to climate concerns that also puts money back in drivers’ pockets every single mile.
My flat-fee advisory model is proving that transparency builds trust. Clients know exactly what they’re paying—no hidden commissions, no surprises—and it frees me to spend real time delivering advice that actually saves them money and improves their futures. It’s advice done right.
A secure southern border which has dramatically reduced deaths from fentanyl and is saving countless young lives by crushing child s*x trafficking networks. With illegal crossings at record lows, the cartels’ most profitable smuggling pipelines have been disrupted—weakening these violent organizations, freeing resources to protect the vulnerable, and preventing exploitation of children who were previously funneled into horrific abuse. After overdose numbers peaked in 2022, we’ve seen a 27% plunge in total drug overdose deaths in 2024, with synthetic-opioid deaths dropping another 35%+ into 2025 and continuing to fall. Every prevented tragedy is a victory for human dignity and safety. Every life saved is a victory worth cheering.
Global access to electricity has surged to 92% in 2023 (up from 84% in 2015), bringing power to hundreds of millions more homes and enabling everything from lights for studying to refrigerators that reduce food waste and improve health. This progress powers education, small businesses, and modern healthcare in developing regions while renewable energy becomes the fastest-growing source—making cleaner, more affordable power a reality for billions. It directly lifts quality of life by reducing indoor air pollution from dirty fuels and unlocking opportunity after dark.
Internet access and mobile technology have connected the world at unprecedented speed—billions now have information, education, banking, and markets in their pockets, empowering entrepreneurs in remote villages and giving students access to global knowledge. This digital revolution has fueled economic growth, enabled remote work and learning (especially post-pandemic), and supported innovations like mobile money that lift people out of poverty by connecting them to opportunities once reserved for cities.
Cutting-edge AI and data analytics are shining a bright light on fraud, waste, and abuse in government spending—recovering billions of taxpayer dollars that would otherwise be lost to inefficiency or exploitation. In fiscal year 2024 alone, the U.S. Treasury’s AI-powered tools helped prevent and recover over $4 billion in fraudulent and improper payments (a six-fold increase from the prior year), including nearly $1 billion from check fraud. This progress protects public resources, ensures funds go to those who truly need them, and builds greater trust in institutions. Tools like machine learning are shifting government from “pay and chase” to proactive prevention, saving money while making systems fairer and more efficient for everyone.
Child mortality has plummeted: we've gone from roughly 1 in 10 children dying before age 5 two centuries ago to about 36 per 1,000 live births today—a fraction of historical rates—with millions of parents now watching their kids grow up healthy and strong. Vaccines, better nutrition, sanitation, and medical advances have driven this. Healthy life expectancy has risen significantly over decades, giving people more years of active, fulfilling life and allowing families and societies to thrive.
Reusable rockets are slashing the cost of space travel and opening the final frontier like never before. Thanks to innovations like SpaceX’s Falcon 9—which has now achieved over 30 re-flights on a single booster and helped deliver a record 165+ orbital launches in 2025—launch costs have plummeted, making space more accessible than ever. This is paving the way for fully reusable systems like Starship, satellite mega-constellations delivering global internet, and breakthroughs from the International Space Station that are already yielding new cancer therapies and medical treatments back on Earth. The booming space economy—now valued at over $626 billion and projected to reach $1 trillion by the mid-2030s—is driving technological spin-offs that improve life here at home: better weather forecasting, advanced materials, GPS precision, and inspiration that fuels the next generation of scientists and engineers. Human ingenuity is turning the dream of becoming a multi-planetary species into reality while solving earthly problems along the way.
The long-suffering people of Venezuela are finally seeing a new dawn after the removal of Nicolás Maduro and the end of his narco-terrorist regime. In January 2026, Maduro was captured, dismantling a dictatorship that fueled drug trafficking, corruption, and economic collapse. With the regime’s grip broken, political prisoners have been released, ties to narco-activities severed, and the country is taking gradual but real steps away from socialism toward democratic reforms, economic reopening, and renewed hope for millions who fled or endured hardship. This breakthrough shows that even entrenched authoritarianism can fall, freeing people to rebuild. Early signs—amnesty measures, international re-engagement, and a focus on recovery—are restoring opportunity and dignity to a nation long oppressed. It’s powerful proof that human resilience and the pursuit of liberty can overcome even the darkest chapters.
Advanced AI and robotics are poised to supercharge human productivity. Imagine automated help in nursing homes so caregivers can focus on compassion instead of paperwork. Childcare costs coming down because routine tasks are handled by safe, efficient machines. Dangerous or repetitive jobs transformed so people can pursue more meaningful work. The productivity boom ahead will make life better for everyone.
Look at what innovative solutions have already done: billions lifted from poverty, diseases nearly eradicated, information available at our fingertips, human lives saved and clean energy becoming cheaper every year. Human ingenuity didn’t stop—it’s accelerating. 🚀
We have every reason to be hopeful. The problems are real, but so is our capacity to fix them. The future isn’t something that happens to us—it’s something we build together. Let’s keep innovating, keep connecting, and keep believing in what’s possible.
What’s giving you hope right now? Drop it in the comments—I’d love to hear. Together, we’ve got this.
