A few weeks ago, one of our team members, Leigh Worlds, reminded us that the 25th anniversary of 9/11 was coming up. It was surprising to realize how quickly the years have passed.
As we talked about the anniversary, we shared our own stories and experiences of that day and reflected on the many lives forever changed by the events of September 11, 2001.
Leigh also reminded us that 9/11 has become a day when many people choose to serve others in remembrance. That felt like a meaningful way for our team to observe the anniversary, not by trying to recreate or compare ourselves to the extraordinary acts of courage and sacrifice that defined that day, but simply by taking an opportunity to serve our community.
So, at Leigh's urging, our team came together to prepare bagged lunches for some of our neighbors experiencing homelessness.
Leigh secured the supplies and set everything up Thursday evening. Then came Friday morning. As memorial services played on the televisions around our office, our team worked side by side making and packing sandwiches, snacks, drinks, and lunches.
It was a small act of service, but it gave us an opportunity to pause, remember, and do something for others together.
We remember by serving.
