Cash Flow Problems? It Could Be Your Process

Many business owners I work with are juggling client demands, deadlines, and endless administrative tasks. Often, they are rushed, stretched thin, and lack the time or emotional bandwidth to set up formal processes. It’s understandable. But this reactive approach—starting with invoices rather than structured projects—can create real risks and missed opportunities for financial clarity.

When work isn’t organized around projects, owners frequently encounter difficulty tracking costs and resources accurately, limited visibility into true project profitability, frequent cash flow surprises and delays in billing, and challenges in planning future work confidently.

We understand that setting up these processes can feel overwhelming, especially when you’re running day-to-day operations. That’s where we step in. By guiding businesses to implement structured, project-based workflows with proper costing and governance, we help owners reclaim clarity, confidence, and control over their financials—without adding stress to an already busy schedule.

Cracker Barrel Rebrand from the Perspective of a Financial Strategist with a background in Branding.

It is no secret success restaurant business is finicky and subject to superstitions. The history books are filled with stories of changes, revamps, and relocations leading more often to failure than success. Changes, revamps and relocations tend to have to provide overwhelming value to the customer to be successful. It is word of caution to businesses to mess with customers emotions.

Brands are more than visual appetizers for the eye. The larger the corporation the more important the brand identity is to the success of the enterprise. Brand identities do and should evolve over time to echo or reflect internal and external changes. Central to any brand update is voice, functionality, recall, and positioning. The failures of such efforts exist when this evolution does not advance each of these four principles and sacrifice any in the process.

Contention around the Cracker Barrel brand update, a classic failure in branding, it is neither creative nor has a voice, set apart by uniqueness nor adds value to the customer’s experience through voice or personality.

It is creative equivalency as Washington Commander’s rebrand to the “W”. The W requires minimal creative or technical skill, especially in today's technological landscape, and has absolutely zero voice. It is a “W”. Blah. At best, an attempt to associate the “W” logo with the letter “w” for “Win” would be a most creative stretch to imbed meaning into the brand image. It is a “monogram”, for all you old graphic designers.

The politics of the change has been a large discussion. Like many things. There is an overwhelming movement in the United States to divest of the heritage of white culture and deny any contribution of Caucasian cultures in history. American brands have erased culture in the argument that having a cultural image is a form of racism. Which is completely absurd.
Should all Jamaican restaurants give up their Jamaican colors? Should all Hispanic brands erase their cultural associations? Should all Indian brands change to be more generic. The reality is once upon a time burbs of cultural saturation existed. Today, the left would call that segregation, immoral, and an abomination. However, what is lost? There are no more burbs where you can get saturated in cultural experiences. Everything is homogenized. A legitimate argument exists that such a focus on homogenization devalues all cultures.
From the perspective of the Accountant, CFO, the financial strategist, the revised Cracker Barrel logo has the same financial outcome as changing the color on an antique collectible car. Cracker Barrel reduced the goodwill and value of their brand identity system. Brand Identities have a financial value determined by many inputs including the ones discussed above.
A message to brands. Make good decisions. Stop the madness. Don’t be afraid to be natural. Being an old country store founded by a white person is as offensive as a Mexican restaurant founded by a Hispanic or Jerk Chicken by a Jamaican. If your company is concerned you are not accessing a particular market segment, create a new vertical or product with a voice speaking to that market. It is not bigoted or racist. Cultural differences can be a value add.
