The IRS is issuing two important tax information letters regarding the 2021 Economic Impact Payment and the Advance Child Tax Credit payment. These letters are being mailed to taxpayers who received either one of these tax payments in 2021.

You should save these letters for preparation of your upcoming 2021 tax return. These letters will help you or your tax practitioner to determine if you are eligible for additional credits on your tax return.

The Massachusetts Department of Revenue recently posted a directive regarding non-resident employees who telecommuted in 2020 due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

Non-resident employees who worked in Massachusetts prior to COVID-19 and who later telecommuted from locations outside of Massachusetts due to COVID-19 should be aware that these wages are still considered taxable income in the state of Massachusetts.

When getting ready to file your 2020 tax return be sure to include records of any stimulus payment(s) you may have received.

While these stimulus payments are not taxable, if you did not receive a payment or did not receive the maximum payment, you may be eligible to claim the Recovery Rebate Credit when you file your 2020 tax return.

The IRS has announced that the 2020 tax filing season will begin on Friday February 12th, 2021. While this is later than in previous years, the filing deadline is still April 15th for individuals. Make sure to file a 2020 tax return to guarantee that you receive all of the stimulus money that you are eligible for!
