πŸ’° The Business Is Making Money, So Why Am I Broke?

Your sales are up. Your clients are paying. Revenue looks good.

So why does your bank balance tell a completely different story?

This is one of the most frustrating parts of growing a business. Making more money does not always mean keeping more money.

Between taxes, payroll, operating expenses, debt, subscriptions, and spending that adds up quietly, your cash flow can disappear faster than you realize.

The question isn’t just β€œHow much did my business make?”

It is β€œWhere did the money go, and how much did I actually keep?”

πŸ’¬ Be honest: Have you ever had a profitable month but still felt broke?

Comment YES if you’ve been there.

The most expensive real estate mistake I see is not a missed deduction. It is a decision made in the wrong order.

Owners decide to sell, then call us. By then, the structure of the sale is fixed, and most of what could have been done had to happen months earlier β€” before the listing, sometimes before the purchase.

Depreciation, entity structure, how the property is held, what happens to the gain: those are decisions with a shelf life.

πŸ‘‡ Investors β€” what is the one question you wish you had asked before your first sale?

🚨 TAX MYTH OR FACT?

MYTH: β€œI formed an LLC, so now it is deductible.”

❌ Myth β€” and an expensive one.

An LLC changes who is liable and how you are taxed. It does not change what qualifies as a business expense. That test has not moved: ordinary, necessary, and connected to the business.

People form an LLC in January and start running personal costs through it by March, believing the entity did the work. The entity did not do the work.

πŸ‘‡ What is something you were told was deductible that you were never quite sure about? Ask below.

β€œI will deal with it when I have the money.”

I hear that sentence more than almost any other, and it contains a hidden assumption: that the IRS gets more flexible the longer you wait. It does not. It gets more automated.

Waiting until you can pay in full is a strategy that assumes you control the timeline. You do not. But you do control when you start the conversation, and that is worth more than most people think.

πŸ‘‡ What is the assumption about money you were raised with that turned out not to be true?

It’s 9:00 PM on a Sunday. You open your online banking to β€œquickly reconcile” your expenses... and immediately close the laptop.

You’ve got 43 unclassified charges from last month, three random Home Depot runs you can’t remember, and personal money mixed into your business account because β€œyou were in a rush.”

You tell yourself, β€œI’ll just fix it all in January before tax season.”

Here’s what actually happens: January arrives, you hand your tax pro a disaster, miss hundreds of dollars in legitimate deductions because you can’t verify them, and pay extra just to clean up the mess.

Running a business is exhausting enough without playing detective with your own bank account.

πŸ‘‰ Save this post to remind yourself: 15 minutes of cleanup on Friday saves 15 hours of panic in April.

Today is the extension deadline. If your return is not filed, file it anyway β€” even if you cannot pay.

Filing and paying are two separate obligations with two separate penalties. Filing today stops the larger one. Payment can be arranged afterward, and there are more ways to arrange it than most people realize.

The worst version of today is doing nothing because you cannot do everything.

πŸ‘‡ Filed? Say β€œdone” below. Not filed? DM the word FILE, and we will tell you what your options are today.

If you filed an extension for your individual 1040 tax return, the deadline to file is October 15, 2026. ⏰

Remember: An extension gives you more time to file, not more time to pay. If you still haven’t completed your return, now is the time to take action.

October 15 is a deadline to file. It was never a deadline to pay.

That distinction has been quietly costing people money since April, because the failure-to-file penalty and the failure-to-pay penalty are not the same size β€” and the bigger one is the one you can still avoid this week.

If your return is not done, the priority is filing, not perfecting.

πŸ‘‡ Extension filers β€” are you done, close, or not started? Honest answers only.
