It’s extension season, so here is our annual reminder that filing an extension only gives you more time to file, not more time to pay. You are still expected to pay what you owe by the original deadline. For calendar year filers, it’s April 15 for Federal. Your state may have a different deadline. It’s May 1 for Virginia.

Did you know?! If your Adjusted Gross Income (AGI) is less than $79,000, you might be able to use IRS' free file tool to file your federal tax return? Check it out: https://www.irs.gov/filing/free-file-do-your-federal-taxes-for-free

Note: This tool will not file your state tax return, so if you have a state filing obligation, you'll need to find a different way to file that.

MileIQ users: you can record your 2024 beginning odometer reading.

- go to Settings
- go to Vehicles
- choose the vehicle
- go to the Odometer Readings section, click 2024, and enter your starting odometer reading

Remember: a key to business deductions is substantiation, and that includes business mileage. A good log has odometer readings.

Here is your annual reminder (a few hours early) to write down your odometer reading on January 1. This is critical info to add to your mileage log for those business miles. Happy new year!
