Iris wants to remind you that it is FAT BEAR WEEK!!! Katmai National Park in Alaska has HUGE brown bears that feast on the salmon in Brooks River. Rangers take pictures as the bears come out of hibernation and head to the river. Then they take pictures at the end of August, or beginning of September, to show how much each bear has filled out. The contest is single elimination as it pits one bear against another from September 22 through 29, until we crown the winner and the fattest bear! Explore.org has the details, live cameras, and the ability to vote. Let the games begin!!

Sunshine makes all the plants stronger
Iris drinks in all that solar power
So she can become a sunflower

Shade is sought
When weather is hot

Time to be cool
And hang at the pool

With Iris, I think
In her bikini of pink
