One of my favorite conference experiences recently had absolutely nothing to do with the conference.

The person sitting next to me happened to be an environmental chemist, and somehow, we ended up talking about data centers.

We both understand the need for them and the role they play in our increasingly digital world. But we also had some big questions and concerns everything from infrastructure constraints and costs to environmental impact.

What I enjoyed most was hearing a completely different perspective from someone who approaches the topic from an entirely different field.

It reminded me why I enjoy conferences so much.

Sure, I appreciate the sessions, the speakers, and the opportunity to learn. But some of the best learning happens in the conversations you don’t plan for.

You never know who you’ll sit next to, what they’ll know, or where a five-minute conversation might lead.

I left that conversation feeling genuinely inspired to learn more about a topic I hadn’t expected to think about that day.

What’s the most interesting conversation you’ve had at a conference or networking event? I’d love to hear about it.

Have you ever asked for something simple… and somehow ended up with something way more complicated than you needed?

That’s been my experience with AI-generated images lately.

I recently started a blog for C-squared Accounting, and I’ve been using AI to help create some of the visuals. And honestly, I’m impressed with how far the technology has come. I’m grateful for the time it can save and the ideas it can bring to life.

But sometimes, I just want 𝘀𝗶𝗺𝗽𝗹𝗲.

I’ll give AI a straightforward prompt, and instead of giving me exactly what I asked for, it adds extra details, backgrounds, objects, or “improvements” I never requested. Then I end up spending more time trying to simplify the image than I would have spent creating it myself.

It actually got me thinking about something I see in business all the time:

𝗠𝗼𝗿𝗲 𝗶𝘀𝗻’𝘁 𝗮𝗹𝘄𝗮𝘆𝘀 𝗯𝗲𝘁𝘁𝗲𝗿.

Whether it’s your bookkeeping, tax strategy, or business systems, sometimes the goal isn’t to make things more complicated, it’s to make them clearer and more useful.

And that’s something I’ll take over “more” any day.

What’s something in your business that you’ve realized doesn’t need to be more complicated—just better organized? 𝗧𝗲𝗹𝗹 𝗺𝗲 𝗶𝗻 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗰𝗼𝗺𝗺𝗲𝗻𝘁𝘀.

Can you believe it? The FPSA Summit is officially here this week (August 13th - 15th), and I couldn't be more thrilled! 🎉

As a reminder, I’ll be taking the stage to talk, tax planning. Now, I know tax strategy isn't usually what gets people jumping out of their chairs with excitement but when you realize how much money, time, and stress a solid plan saves you? It changes the game entirely.

In my session, I hope to break down the tax barrier. No dry jargon, just real, practical takeaways to protect your bottom line.

If you’re heading to the summit this week, I’d love to connect! Drop a comment if you’ll be there, and come say hi. Let’s talk strategy and make this week count!

See you at FPSA!

Nothing beats the moment a client’s eyes light up and they say, “Wait… taxes actually make sense now!” 💡

So many business owners come to me feeling completely overwhelmed by their numbers. They’re stressed about tax season, unsure where their money is actually going, and running in circles trying to figure out if they’re even making a profit. It’s exhausting trying to grow a business when your finances feel like a total black box.

That’s why my absolute favorite client relationships are built on education.

As a CPA, I don't want to just hand you a tax return once a year and send you on your way. I enjoy walking alongside you to demystify your numbers, teaching you the why and how behind smart financial management. We turn confusing accounting jargon into clear, simple strategy.

The best part? Watching those “aha!” moments turn into real, tangible results like major tax savings, increased profit margins, and total financial clarity. When confusion turns into confidence, you can finally build the profitable business you deserve.

A few months ago, I started sending consistent weekly emails.

Nothing fancy. Just small, helpful (I hope) nuggets of value for business owners in my world.

If I’m being honest, I wasn’t fully convinced it would “work.” It felt like one more thing on a long list of marketing efforts, and it’s easy to wonder if anyone is really paying attention.

So I kept it simple and stayed consistent anyway.

Fast forward to this month, one of those emails turned into a new client signing on.
Not because of a big campaign.

Not because of ads or anything complicated. Just a steady email that landed at the right time and stayed top of mind.

What stood out most is that this client first reached out months ago. Life got busy, timing wasn’t right, and things went quiet… until the email brought everything back into focus.
That was the confirmation I didn’t know I needed.

Consistency really does compound even when you can’t see the results right away.

Have you ever had something finally “work” right before you almost stopped doing it?

I recently received a free website audit, and honestly, I wasn't expecting much. I've seen plenty of generic website reviews that offer vague advice without telling you what to actually do next.

𝗧𝗵𝗶𝘀 𝘄𝗮𝘀 𝗱𝗶𝗳𝗳𝗲𝗿𝗲𝗻𝘁.

In a 10-minute video, they walked through my website and gave specific, actionable recommendations. Nothing complicated or expensive, just practical improvements to readability, strengthening my brand story, improving navigation and user flow, and refining my calls to action.

What surprised me most was how impactful the suggestions were. None of the changes were major on their own, but together they've made my website feel both more personable and more professional.

It was a great reminder that sometimes we're too close to our own businesses to see what's obvious to someone else.

And it reinforced something I often tell my clients: small improvements, implemented consistently, can create meaningful results over time.

What's the most valuable free resource, audit, or piece of advice you've received for your business?

A client recently reached out after seeing an Instagram ad about the IRS Fresh Start Program.

I'll admit, those ads make me a little uncomfortable as a tax professional.
Not because tax relief options aren't real, but because the ads often make it sound like anyone can have their tax debt dramatically reduced or eliminated with a simple application.

The reality is that the IRS offers several resolution options, not one special program, and eligibility depends on your specific situation.

What I appreciated most wasn't the question itself. It was the trust behind it.
Instead of taking the ad at face value, my client reached out and asked, "Is this legit?"

Moments like that remind me why I do what I do. There is so much tax information online, and not all of it is accurate or complete. Being the person clients turn to for clarity and reliable guidance is something I never take for granted.

If you could get a straight answer to one tax question right now, what would it be?

This past weekend had me thinking about my Fourth of July celebrations as a kid which meant a big family cookout.

Aunts, uncles, cousins, neighbors, someone was always manning the grill, kids were running around outside, and the day seemed to last forever.

These days, my Fourth of July looks a little different.

The gatherings are smaller. The pace is slower. And one of my favorite traditions is taking Brutus on an extra-long trip to the dog park before settling in to enjoy the holiday.

I've learned that celebrations evolve right alongside us.

As small business owners, it's easy to get caught up in deadlines, client work, and the next goal. Holidays like this remind me that the people (and pets) we spend our time with are part of the reason we're building our businesses in the first place.

The celebrations may look different than they once did, but that doesn't make them any less meaningful.

How has your Fourth of July tradition changed over the years?

I recently had a call with a prospective client that reminded me something important:

What feels like common knowledge to you may be life-changing information to someone else.

During our conversation, I shared that the IRS generally considers taxpayers caught up when the last six years of returns have been filed.

To me, it was a fairly routine piece of information.

To them, it was a huge relief.

They had been carrying stress and uncertainty for years, and that one piece of information gave them clarity on what the path forward actually looked like.

At the end of the call, they thanked me repeatedly and jokingly called it a "$5,000 call."

The experience was a reminder that the value we provide isn't always in complex strategies or lengthy reports. Sometimes it's helping someone move from confusion to confidence.

As business owners, we're often so close to our expertise that we forget how valuable it can be to others.

I see this a lot with clients in the pet care world too. Things that feel second nature to groomers, sitters, and trainers are often the exact insights pet parents like me need to feel more confident and less overwhelmed.

What's a piece of knowledge you use every day that someone else might find incredibly valuable?

I attended a webinar on SEO and AIO this week, and it completely changed the way I think about online visibility.

To be honest, I've always viewed SEO as something overly technical, time-consuming, or expensive.

But the webinar broke it down into simple, actionable steps that even a small business owner like me can implement:

✔️ Add keywords your ideal clients are already searching for to your website.
✔️ Create fresh content consistently.
✔️ Build trust by making your website a reliable source of information.
That's it.

Instead of feeling overwhelmed, I left feeling empowered.
Will these strategies transform my business overnight? Probably not. But they seem simple enough to implement consistently, and consistency is usually where the magic happens.

So I'm making a commitment: for the next six months, I'm going to intentionally apply these principles and see what happens.
In a way, this is me putting my money where my mouth is since I spend a lot of time helping clients understand that consistency with their numbers pays off, so I'm challenging myself to bring that same mindset to marketing.

I'll be sure to share what I learn along the way.

What's one marketing strategy you've been putting off because it seemed too complicated? Maybe it's simpler than you think.
