Business success isn't only about making more money.

It's also about alignment.

Vision. Roles. Risk. Cash flow. Family.

If those pieces aren't working together, more income may not solve the problem.

Sometimes the issue isn't how much money is coming in. It's how everything is structured around it.

Production determines income. Structure determines wealth.

Clinical excellence and business ownership require different skill sets.

Which skill do you think dental professionals are least prepared for when they become practice owners?

Which one deserves more attention?

a) Managing Cash Flow

b) Leading a Team

c) Understanding the Numbers

d) Building Business Systems

You can be clinically prepared and still be unprepared for ownership.

That distinction came through clearly in my conversation with Sade Morel, RDHAP.

After spending 10 years in corporate dentistry, Sade recognized something many dentists and hygienists eventually discover:
School teaches you how to provide excellent clinical care.

But who teaches you how to run the business?
Production.
Overhead.
Cash flow.
Leadership.
Systems.
Profitability.

These require a different education.

Sade's experience inside a DSO gave her exposure to structure and business thinking that she would later apply to her own practice.
Clinical excellence gets you into the profession.
Understanding the business helps determine what you build once you're there.

Who gets access to care when the traditional model doesn't reach them?

That's one of the questions we'll be exploring on this Saturday evening’s recording of TheWealthyDentistPodcast™ with Sade Morel, RDHAP.

As an independent practice owner, legislative advocate, and leader in advancing dental hygiene autonomy, Sade is helping expand access to preventive oral healthcare for underserved communities, homebound individuals, and patients with disabilities.

This conversation goes beyond clinical care.

We'll discuss:
The future of dental hygiene
Expanding access to care
Leadership through advocacy
Building practices that serve communities where they're needed most
Looking forward to sharing this conversation this weekend.

Every profession moves forward because people are willing to challenge what's possible.

Every successful practice has strong clinical skills. But long-term success is rarely built on one factor alone. If you had to choose just one, which has the greatest impact over time?

Vote below, then tell us why in the comments.

What do you believe has the greatest impact on a dental practice's long-term success?

1. Clinical Excellence
2. Financial Discipline
3. Leadership & Culture
4. Continuous Learning

Knowledge only creates value when it's shared.
Dentistry is evolving, and so are the challenges facing practice owners, clinicians, and teams.
That's why The Wealthy Dentist Podcast™ exists—to bring together leaders with different experiences, perspectives, and expertise so our profession can continue learning from one another.
I appreciate Michelle Repash for recognizing that mission:
"The Wealthy Dentist Podcast is an integral part of exposing different areas of dentistry that need attention in this day and age. It is a critical piece to getting knowledge to those who need to know."
Thank you, Michelle, for your thoughtful words and for contributing to the conversation.
Our goal has always been simple:
To help dental professionals think differently, lead intentionally, and continue growing—professionally and personally.

Quick Question:

When reviewing your practice, which number gives you the most confidence?

A.) Production
B.) Collections
C.) Cash Flow
D.) None by itself

Every number tells a story.
The question is whether it's the whole story.

When I launched The Wealthy Dentist Podcast™, my goal was never to make every conversation about money.

Money matters.
But wealth is much broader than a balance sheet.
It's found in our character.
Our relationships.
Our leadership.
The decisions we make.
And the legacy we leave behind.

I was humbled when Dr. Roy Shelburne shared this perspective after appearing on the podcast.
"Wealth is more than just income... what truly makes us wealthy is based partly on the amount of money we have, but mostly on who we are as individuals."
That's exactly the conversation I hope to create—one that helps us think differently about success, leadership, and what it truly means to be wealthy.

Thank you, Dr. Roy Shelburne, for your kind words and for sharing your perspective with our audience.

Every patient has a story.

Too often, we focus on the treatment plan before we understand the person.

The best clinicians don't just interpret radiographs.
They read the room.

They listen before they recommend.
They seek understanding before they prescribe.

The same principle applies in leadership.

People aren't problems to solve.
They're individuals to understand.

In this clip from The Wealthy Dentist Podcast™, Dr. Paige Patterson shares why seeing patients as whole people leads to better care, stronger relationships, and better decisions.

What changes when we take the time to understand before we act?

06/24/2026

Sometimes the challenge isn't communication.
It's understanding.

We live in a world that encourages us to place people into categories, labels, and assumptions.
Yet some of the most meaningful relationships, whether with patients, team members, or the people we care about most, begin when we take the time to understand what is actually there.

The same is true in business.

* Assumptions create blind spots.
* Understanding creates opportunities.
* Diagnosis before treatment.
* Measure first. Then decide.

Join Dr. Paige Patterson on The Wealthy Dentist Podcast™ as we discuss leadership, perspective, and the importance of seeing people clearly.
