Today is the official opening day for the 2017 tax season. (Jan 29-April 18). However, due to a law change there will be refund delays....IRS will hold any refunds claiming the Earned Income Credit (EITC) or additional child tax credit (ACTC) until Feb. 15. Even though the IRS will begin releasing EITC and ACTC by Feb. 15 many early filers will still not have actual access to their refund until the week of Feb. 27.

The IRS announced that there will likely be tax refund payment delays. In particular for those claiming the Earned Income Tax Credit (EITC) or the Additional Child Tax Credit (ACTC) refunds may not be processed until after February 15 (with payments coming 2 weeks later) in order to perform further identity verification checks.
